Hi all,

I'm an ex Monaro owner, and the urge for Australian muscle again is getting harder to ignore. Early next year I should be looking for something.

Necessity is pushing me down the VXR8 route.

My question. I could service and repair my Monaro no problem. It was a simple car and I'm a simple man! Is the VXR8 the same? Or is there a jump in complexity?

Something for me to consider, particularly reading that MF is closing.

Thank you

little difference between the two of them service wise , slightly more capacity in the r8 oil wise , they are pretty straight forward to work on

I havent owned a Monaro and there are plenty who may have a more informed opinion than me but for what its worth....

VXR8 is a more advanced (ie newer) platform but the basics are all the same. Lets face it, its the same engines for the newer Monaros and older VXR8s. There are some parts differences but its the same deal. Newer E3s have various extra bits re EDI and dampers etc but shouldnt cause a problem for general day to day stuff - imho.

at least when you look into a monaro or r8 engine bay it's fairly obvious what's what , plus a simple code reader on ebay for 15£ or so helps , my subaru that is much more involved , apart from subaru plugs as it's a bugger to get to them it's still easily serviceable

I've had many scratch marks on my hands and arms changing Subaru spark plugs laugh
