Servicing & repairs after Monkfish :-(
Discussion
Now I've started to come to terms with the terrible news that Monkfish will soon be no more I thought I'd canvas opinion on where people will take their cars from now on. Personal recommendations would be much appreciated.
I'm based in Bedfordshire so it makes most sense I think for me to use Walkinshaw.

As pointed out on another thread, it depends on where you live. For people in the north of the UK, Like me, it will be AAS .
If it is something particularly Monaro specific I think Walkinshaw will probably be the one to go to. Having said that for the past 10 years I have only ever used Monkfish or AAS.
Over the next 12 months things will settle down and we will see if the picture changes, I believe there will be some scope for a company to step in and take up the Monkfish mantle.
If not, I can check tyre pressures and change engine oil.....form an orderly queue....mfp4073 enterprises at your service!!!!!!!!!!

To my mind, the issue is not that the cars are complicated (which they arent, as per the general consensus) but who carries the range of stock that means that things can get replaced in a timely manner without having to wait for mail order.
Not just that but knowing the right part for the car in question - which is not always straightforward.

Remember that Walkinshaw import the majority of the parts that suppliers in this country get - if there is anything you need they either have it or can get it.

I don't know where you heard that from. Vx have their own supply route and Monkfish obtained theirs directly from Australia or America.Ade

There's been a few times when I've had my VXR8(s) in at various Vauxhall dealers for warranty work, and they've told me they are waiting for parts with no ETA. I just call Dave at Walkinshaw and he gives me the ETA on the part. I often know when the part is going to arrive at the dealer before the Vauxhall dealer themselves know!
Concern here as I run a couple of earlier VT2s... The engine & 'box are simple, but it's things like bodywork, trim, vehicle specific electrics etc. that concern me.
Not sure what the details of 'personal sacrifice' entail (and neither is it my business), but I can't work out why the company couldn't have been sold/acquired, or a manager put in if one wanted a sabatical or more back-seat role.
Holmart could be my new friend!

Totally agree !!!Not just that but knowing the right part for the car in question - which is not always straightforward.
I havent found a problem getting any parts for my vt2, and usually a lot cheaper than monkfish are/were. It was great that they had most things in stock for next day though.
But after all its a GM car, and a little digging you can find stuff.
I needed front top mount bearings, and got vauxhall omega ones, next day £30 the piar. Fit perfect

Like you the news hit me hard more so because I saved for years to get a trip to the fish to start upgrades that people could afford years before I could and used to dream of.I'm based in Bedfordshire so it makes most sense I think for me to use Walkinshaw.
Eventually I got there and created a car that I always dreamed of, in other words like all the people I had always dealt with previously with different cars the fish delivered! rare thing these days!
Initially I was so gutted I had decided to sell due to the fact I had never dealt with anyone as good as the fish, but after carefull thought and support from many fellow owners there are plenty of people out there who can take care of these cars, my MOT tester is always in total aw every year at the fishes work.
Thank you Roger and Andy.
I always found the Fish , very helpful and knowledgeable , and friendly , and a quick good source of parts , same dilemma as where to go , i'm in herts and i don't fancy a long trek so looks like i'm doing my own servicing from now on , was there a chap in Hertford who did Mot's wonder if he services cars too ?
