How do people insure these cars?
Discussion
Currently with Highway insurance through Chris Knott on my Focus ST, rang them to get a quote for a VXR8, and they couldn't offer me a quote.
I'm 31, 11yrs NCB, no points, accidents, etc, clean licence, and they couldn't offer me anything. Yet when I go on a comparison website the generic insurers on there happily offer me cover in the £400-£500 range, even if I stick a few mods on there it's still £650ish. I know I could just insure with one of these, but I prefer to go with the smaller firms, and find it odd that these 'specialist' firms won't quote on a car like this.
Where is everyone else covered?

Depends if you want your mods covered or not. Most insurers will cover you, though be warned, some insist on a tracker being fitted, but there are plenty out there that aren’t too fussed about a tracker.
Bear in mind, that most ‘mass market’ insurers will charge you extra when you declare your mods (which of course by law you have to) and will cover your modified car for you, but when you read the small print, they do not cover you for the replacement of your mods if anything happens to the car, they just charge you for the privilege of having them. I bet there are a fair few people that may not realise that.
It’s normally only the more specialised insurers who will fully cover the mods and their replacement ‘like for like’.
Looks at the FAQ’s section, but normally insurers such as Sky Insurance, A-Plan, Adrian Flux to name a few are best for any serious mods over and above a cat-back exhaust…

Sky insurance, sp30 & sp50 full no claims, all power mods declared, I have a tracker for piece of mind, tracker company called me a few weeks ago asking why my car was being elevated without ignition on, it was at Walkinshaw's on their car lift, so pretty good to have one and it will lower insurance.
