Which ratio box do I have? MM6 or M12? As per workshop manual.
As far as I know it's not the original ute box .
Numbers on metal tag are
92067136 M1833
TUET2100 AC 02594
Finally getting myself organised for a Tick Performance T56 Magnum rather than going for a rebuilt T56.

Check the ratios of the tick performance box first and bear in mind your diff ratio.I am having my tick performance box built at the moment and hoping it comes at the end of the month. They will do the standard ratios for either mm6 and mm12 at a extra cost of $500

TUET2100 is M6, or rather a CV8 gearbox.

If you're buying a new box, it doesnt really matter what you have...it matters what you want.

Thanks guys, 5.7 box it is then. Every days a school day.

James I thought the ratios they are advertising are the standard ones? rather than charging extra 500.

Stevie that is a good point, but as a starting point I had to know what I have at the mo. But yes the question is what ratio box do I need ?? I'll take some advise if you have any?
600+ bhp running 19's and 3.9 c/w and pinion.

There are many online gear ratio calculators.

You determine what might suit best for your setup and needs.

Although with the Magnums, they offer only 2 ratio sets anyway

RSG offer more ratio sets, although I could never get a straight answer from them as to whether they could build them into an FBody/Monaro style T56 casing.

DD is probably cheapest at the minute for a straight FBody/Monaro/GTO Magnumised T56

http://www.ddperformance.com/custom-t-56-magnums-f...

Obviously an actual Magnum will be cheaper, but then shifter will move to a less than ideal position, likewise propshaft mods would be needed etc.

In regards to ratios I'm not sure exactly what I want, I think a closer ratio box would be better perhaps as I'm not doing any motorway driving and the 3.9 diff seams to suit the twisty Manx roads
Tick seam to offer a slightly tweaked version of the Magnum and I had seen that DD are a fare bit cheaper. I'll have a look at RSG to see what they are offering.
I had emailed Mal Wood in Oz who do the converted Magnum for the Monaro, they can supply a prop too but not cheap by any means. New High Performance Tailshaft assembly, made from Premium components including Chrome Moly Tubing $2720 !!!!!

I wonder what a 0.67 ratio 6th would be like? I've never liked the gear ratios of the MM6 CV8 gearbox. I'd prefer a shorter top gear.

Tick, DD, RPM etc etc can all offer "built" versions of the box, where they change various parts.

When when many use the Magnums as they are without issue...a lot of the modifications seem a little pointless. Even a basic Magnum or version will be a huge improvement in every respect vs an old T56.

RSG offer some of theirs with the ZR1 gears or Viper gears which are supposedly stronger and again covering more ratios. But they might both only be in a Magnum shell, which will then mean a lot more work to make it physically work in the car.

But as for any gearing queries, there is just no simple answer. It will depend on your power, rpm range, final drive, tyres usage, etc etc.

For me I think the 0.74 and 0.5, 5th and 6th are great. 5th can take me beyond 200mph and 6th is just for cruising ( and I still go for 7th occasionally lol )
But that setup clearly wont suit everyone, some will like a very close ratio set.and may want all 6 gears to be much shorter.

I did price off Mal Wood years ago too, but their prices were insane. Obviously they have to buy from the US first of all, so that's bound to inflate their prices.

no m8 they mixed matched between the m6 and m12.You would need the standard ratios of the m6 at a extra cost of 500 dollars

Stevie thanks for your input it's given me a bit more to think about, maybe a cheaper DD conversion might be a better way to go and save me some money to put into the clutch setup.

James that's nice to know, thanks..
