Since my car is 10 years old, can someone advise what the most cost effective way of repairing/replacing the wing and bonnet area?

Would it be better to get a scrap part versus having it repaired? I have some deep stone chips, a few dents and some scratches.

Any recommendations of places that can do the work or supply the used panels?

Thanks

I would have thought repairs to existing panels would be cheaper. Surely they can't be that badly damaged?
Plus, getting replacement panels for a Monaro won't be particularly straightforward.

Some good dent removal options out there now, failing that try Gary (Raving) for parts. You may mix and match repairs and replacements dependant on damage etc. What colour is yours, if its a common colour then there is a decent chance he has the parts with the added bonus of you can send them to the paint shop if needed off the car potentially saving money at the sprayers (if needed)

It is red. I also have discolouration on the bonnet. looks like two giant water marks. Is that normal for Monaro paint work?

Try PM`ing Gary (Raving) for spares if your panels are badly dented, it sounds like you may have laquer peel possibly. A bonnet respray on its own would set you back around £350, I resprayed my front end with a reputable professional body repairer for £740 which was bonnet, bumper and wings so may be worth enquiring dependant on how bad your lumps and bumps are

The black paint on my car is in good shape, even at 12yrs of age. I think red is just one of those colours that fades in the sun, not to mention the stonking heat coming from a large V8 engine.
If you get the front end painted make sure you apply a good quality wax every 3-4 months, that should sort it.

Sounds like lacquer peel. Not "normal" but can happen to any car.

I also have a red Monaro and have a spot of lacquer peel on the spoiler.

If you can find a good small local body shop. I am lucky to have one I know who transformed my wifes tired VXR8 for no more than £350 all in. inc front panels off, restored and resprays. Some painters are magicians, you just have to find them. Even have one here who works for Chips away!. Maybe ask on your local piston heads group?.

Thanks, that's good advice, didn't realise there were local ones.
