I know this has been described previously but why does it happen. Early one damp morning speedo and rev.counter went dead only to come back telling I
was doing 180 mph at 1500 in the York railwaystation parkinglot meanwhile fuel was zero, nada, zilch! At restart all OK. Yeaterday soundsystem went silent for
30 min ,also came back after restart.This is a new(almost)04 CV8 under warranty.Please advice!

They all do this. Usually fine after a restart. Some sort of software problem, perhaps. Mine's done it about 5 times in 10 months - a bit alarming first time, but really nothing too much to worry about.

The digital speedo continues to read correctly even though the analogue dials have gone haywire.

Be interesting to know whether (a) Vauxhall are aware of the problem and intend doing anything about it, (b) whether the Aussie spec Monaros also do this.

Yep we're aware of the problem and trying to get a fix from Oz. Our i/p is based on the Pontiac unit because of our chilly temps and so has different wiring and LCDs. I'll get an update soon.

Whilst we wait for Vauxhall, if people are willing, we could use ATS (No, not ATS Euromaster), but Analytical Troubleshooting to analyse the fault and gain a better understanding of why it happens & its root causet. It's a technique common to all businesses and is extremely useful in circumstances such as these.

I'll put a document together that Paul can make available on the Web Site. It'll then be up to the Monaro owners to collect the data that we can then discuss. I'd suggest that we use AIM/GAIM to discuss findings as the ATS technique asks's a lot of questions and an open web chat is the next best thing to either conference calls or being in the same place at the same time.

For those not familiar with ATS, it's an itterative process that requires as much participation as possible. Stage 1 is data collection. Stage 2 analyses the data and separates the IS from the IS NOT's. Stage 3 then looks at the differences and similarities between the IS & IS NOT's across the data to find commonalities. Hypotheses are formulated and re-applied to the Is & IS NOT's. Each hypothesis can then be eliminated or taken forward. It sounds complicated, but is actually straight forward.
