Monaro Spigot Bearing
Discussion
Heard of this issue, but struggling to work out exactly what the problems/symptoms are when it's apparent.
I have some issues with gear selection & my clutch - Gear selection is hit & miss which is most annoying, I also seem to be getting definite clutch slip within the upper half of my rev range in most gears with any significant throttle application.
Car paperwork suggests it has had an LS7 upgrade installed by Walkinshaw, and I carried out a clutch fluid flush/renewal last week which has helped slightly with the gear selection issues but hasn't cured it atall.
I also have a bearing noise which changes with my engine revs, regardless of whether the clutch is engaged or not; though I have a Harrop 112 supercharger fitted and it sounded like the noise was from the top of the engine/charger itself but with these gear issues I am unsure now...
Anyone able to shed any light?

From the symptoms you have given it sounds like a worn clutch. The noise may also be a spigot bearing as well, but that would not cause the clutch to slip.
The only way to be sure is to take off the gear box and check. If you go that far you would be wise to replace everything and leave nothing to chance.

Before I bought my car I test drove another one but walked away because of, what turned out to be, a dodgy spigot bearing.
The main symptom was a noise from the box just as the clutch was engaged. The noise was evident up until about 2k rpm when it seemed to fade away.
I didn't notice any problems with gear selection on that particular car although I have heard that trouble selecting first and reverse are also common symptoms.
The car I ended up buying (5 years and 20k miles ago) has always had a bit of noisey transmission which I put down as a characteristic rather than a fault because it has always worked fine.
I'm not a mechanic but if you're having trouble with gear selection generally I reckon it's probably something to do with the clutch or a bad spigot bearing which has been left so long that it has done further damage.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along soon though.

Dodgy spigot bearing will give similar symptoms to not depressing the clutch. It won't necessarily sound like a bearing that's gone as the LS1 & 2 engines have a plain metal bearing. I think LS3 engines have a proper ball bearing. If the bearing is truely gone you may get transmission vibration as the bearing won't be keeping the input shaft true. If you get stuck and can't get into a gear try turning the engine off, if it then goes into gear easily it would point to the spigot bearing. The spigot bearing will not make a noise when the clutch is engaged, unless the clutch is slipping. I hope this helps.
Thanks everyone for the replies.
I think I am going to need to do a bit of a refresh on the Transmission - Clutch/Slave/Spigot & a better remote bleed (I have an extended part like a VXR8 has I believe?) May also do the crank seal/s too.
Next thing to do is work out how to get the Box out on the driveway...

Not something I would like to try( then again I did run my own foot over with a Jag XJ40 many years ago!)Next thing to do is work out how to get the Box out on the driveway...
I suspect with the weight of a Monaro, a proper gear box jack and a couple of mates should help.
Good luck
Managed to do the overhaul - the old clutch was worn, and the old spigot bearing had disintegrated! and came out in pieces before needing to pull the remaining outer body out...
Took me a bit a longer to complete than I hoped, 11hrs.... due to some tight/unknown fittings, but is all done now. Feels great, a much better pedal and response now!
Also, the simple remote bleeder is an amazing thing - how anyone managed to cope without it is unknown!
