I suspect in a couple of years time there will be massive job cuts, followed by a series of french designed Vauxhall's which will finish the brand as we know it. Curious times!

Having worked for both Ford and Honda I blame the British public. If like the Germans, Italians, Americans and even French they brought only product made in their own Country we would still have a car business and it would safeguard those jobs. Unfortunately the vast majority are now more interested in shiny gadgets and X - factor and the latest episode of Gogglebox. most still believe Dagenham makes cars and the Ford transit is British!. Having travelled the world working for Automotive manufacturers I found the British to be the least patriotic and loyal customers.

A quote from when I was working in Detroit for Ford " daddy I love that new Toyota I think I will get one"
His response " over my dead body, you will buy a Ford. Ford paid our bills, gave us the money for our home, put you through college and you want to buy a Toyota........get out you are not my daughter".

Buy bye Vauxhall. Bonjour French rubbish. Still we have Holdens!

Apparently Holden ceases production in Oct anyway: http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry/end-car...

"Ford Australia at least has the Mustang V8, but it’s not as quick as the supercharged V8 or turbo in-line six-cylinder Falcons. The fastest version of the next-generation Insignia (to be badged as a Holden Commodore when it arrives in Australia in early 2018) only has a 3.0-litre V6, with no room under the bonnet for turbocharging. This explains why Holden Commodore V8s have all but sold out for the rest of the year and buyers are paying over the odds to secure one before it’s too late. Australians are finally figuring out what they’ve lost now it’s almost gone."

Looks like our V8s mark the end of an era. Glad I've kept hold of mine.

It does see a bit odd. As there really are tons of Vauxhalls on the road, especially Insignias.

Unless it really is just in the UK they're selling and nowhere else in Europe, hence the losses ?

But it really is embarrassing...getting taken over by makers of complete and utter ste !!

So what do we all think is going to happen / change?

Loads of other car manufactures own other brands, so what's different here?

I can't see there not being a VX brand on the the roads?

I agree with the sentiment, but Opel bought Vauxhall in 1925, it hasn't been British for a long time.

Holden don't produce any cars any more, just badged Opels, like Vauxhall.

I think the funniest bit of all of this is that Vauxhalls are likely to be the cheap junk that everyone in GG already thinks they are!

See link above, production of Holdens will cease and there will be no more V8s. Aussies will get the same Euro ste Vauxhalls we get, except they will be worse as they are now made by Peugeot/Citroen. Truly awful things.

I had an Astra VXR for two years before the Monaro and I currently have a diesel Insignia as my daily. Two of the most reliable cars I've ever owned.

Vauxhall build quality might not be up there with the Germans but it's a hell of a lot better than Peugeot!

Vauxhall had 3 out of the top 10 selling models in the UK in 2015, the corsa, astra and mokka.

Peugeot have said there will be no job losses till at least 2020, so Vauxhall employees have only 3 years of job security left.

The same thing will happen to Vauxhall that has happened to Nissan (Renault) all the cars will share Peugeot DNA. It's GMs poor management that this has happened and turning their back on Europe.

Ford must be absolutely delighted. The only good thing that may come out of this is that Citroen, part of the Peugeot Group, use their rally design skills DS4/DS3 to create a Vauxhall rally car like the old Opel Monza.

what's happening here is GM have seen that post brexit ,making cars here and sending them to the continent with huge tax levies
is just not going to happen. Flog it off to the French, let them take the flack for closing the factory, and they'll be happy as they get to sell their ste to us.
Well done leave voters, another nail in the UK's coffin.

£2 billion deal done in a matter of months, thats good going.

Perhaps the UK should engage the services of the Vauxhall & PSA negotiators?
