Anyone have any experience this this one? Looking for a quick shift that is as good as the ripshifter, without the price, but also works with standard gearknob assembly.

I've been using a B&M one for a few years and it's a vast improvement over the standard shift .. gives quite a different feel than the rip shift though.

Just found this. Looks like a ripshifter but costs 80% less

Looks like the CUBE shifter I have. The centring springs will be too weak to function properly and the limiting bolts a bit hard to adjust, but otherwise it's decent enough and works well (if you like a very narrow pattern).

i could not justify buying 2 ripshifters , i bought 2 b and m ones for the vy ute one for the monaro , a good price and so much better than before , i've not tried a ripshifter but i'm happy with the b and m and not that bad to fit

The seller says he fits uprated springs to resolve that particular issue

Interesting...where does it say that? I fitted stiffer springs to mine, but it's a tricky balance getting the required stiffness and avoiding binding (I have a spring manufacturer down the road and tried everything remotely viable that they had). The design is an odd bit of spring abuse - they're loaded on one side of the coils only. Mine's better, but not 100%. I'd have removed the springs altogether, but they push on the trunnions to hold the ball joint together.

I emailed him and he said he swaps the springs his supplier fits. I'll give it a whirl and report back.

Cool. Do yourself a favour and swap out the bolts that hold down the shifter for cap heads (makes it possible to swap the shifter in and out without lowering the gearbox). I also modified the white boot thing so it could be installed/removed from inside the car, but that's a messier operation as you want rivnuts in the holes in the trans tunnel, and then you've got an extra feature to seal against (so might need an intermediate gasket).

I have a ripshifter and can confirm it's absolute quality however although it certainly gives the gearbox a completely different feel am not certain it shifts faster than stock I think that is down to how focused you are in your driving.

I still struggle sometimes to get the right gear but it is a vast improvement on stock in the way it feels.

Which ever you choose you need to be sure it suits your driving style, I personally wouldn't base my choice on cost, this is of course only my opinion...

Do you happen to know what size cap heads you used? Once I've got it apart I won't be messing around shopping around for bolts.

My first thought was M8, and a quick google makes it sound like M8x1.25mm and something like 20mm long.

I don't know if it's a good idea or not, but there's also the option of this bronze shifter cup: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CUBE-Speed-short-shifter...

I saw that, but I personally think a plastic would be better so at least one component can dampen vibration. Although the seller of the plastic one wanted £20 to ship. Ridiculous.

Out of curiosity, what state was yours when you removed it?

Nothing wrong with the one I removed that I can remember.

My CUBE has no dampening jobby in the stick either, that wasn't available at the time.
