Heel & Toe action
Discussion
Can anyone help?
I'm trying to find a solution to get the throttle pedal closer to the brake to get some heel & toe action on the gear changes.
At the moment I can't contort my foot to bridge the cavern btwn the throttle and the brake.
Has anyone found a solution or do I need to grow a larger right foot??Thanks Boysie

I believe you have a Monaro?
You might need to follow a similar solution to that I employed for my VXR8? See HERE.
I don't think any links in that post will still work, but you get the idea. It was easily removed before I sold the car.
Some thought the final solution was no prettier than the prototype however....

Just keep practicing. If you're not left foot braking yet, start!I'm trying to find a solution to get the throttle pedal closer to the brake to get some heel & toe action on the gear changes.

I've always found the Monaro fine for heel & toe, although only using the 'pivot' style, compared to the 'side to side' style.
By 'pivot' I mean you press the brake pedal with the ball of your foot, use that as the pivot point and twist your heel out to press the throttle pedal. This means that unless you have size 3 feet, you will be able to span the gap.
If you're trying to use the 'side to side' style then yes, you'd need to be hung like a whale for your feet to span the gap I'd imagine By side to side I mean where the left hand side of your foot is on the brake pedal and the right hand side can press the throttle pedal by just twisting your foot side to side.
Personally I've always found the side to side method feels like my foot could slip off the pedal, so I've never really been comfortable with it, even in cars where the pedals are nicely spaced to allow it.

Apparently you can just bend the throttle pedal arm...?
Or, you know, bend your leg

I love how people comment without knowing where my context comes from. I could select 2nd from fourth on track in my car, and it still wont lock up the rear wheels. Hence no need to rev match.
You might want to rev match when braking hard on a 1000 cc v-twin sports bike, but not in a whale of a roadgoing v8 with the slackest one way LSD ever.
Heel and toe is not only pointless in one of our cars,as ive never been able to upset the rear changing down, its probably going to be detramental to a smooth drive.

Well I've taken my CV8 around Knockhill and the rear end locked up any time I didn't manage to rev match/heel & toe in time with my size 10's I could select 2nd from fourth on track in my car, and it still wont lock up the rear wheels. Hence no need to rev match.

He he. see 3.05 on. 4th to second.no heel toe. Tiff seems to have no problems locking up.

My comments are based on physics. And driving. If you don't rev match, then as you bring up the clutch on the lower gear you're using the wheels to spin the engine up to speed. And big LS engines take some torque to spin them up. This obviously increases the braking effect on the rear wheels. Even if you don't lock up, you're clearly shifting the brake balance rearwards for a short time whilst it is lightly laden.
Rev matching can only possibly be detramental to a smoothe drive if you mess it up. Otherwise you have the engine speed matched to the lower gear - ergo no impact to your braking. It makes braked downchanges smoother in FWD, 4WD, RWD, and 1WD as you've noted.
And if you DDC in the middle of your H&T you're saving huge synchro wear too.
You're not going to lock your wheels not rev matching, if you're not racing around, but it's a good skill to learn so that you stay silky smooth when you're going fast.
Monaro is the first car thats demanded I rev match, but I do it in everything I drive/ride. I drove a lambo Gallardo on the weekend and the crappy paddle 'box couldn't rev match properly so it twitched the back end every time you shift down. It felt like you were about to 360 out of control.Very poor setup.
