Halfords 5W30 'GM' oil
Discussion
Probably been done before, but does anyone use this stuff in their Holden?

I use the equivalent in my daily but have always stuck to 'better' oils for the Monaro / R8.

if its made to the right spec then its as good as any oil.
youll find there are more companies selling it than making it.
which means somebody rebrands it. Halfords used to be made by comma which have been making it for over 50 years
I really don't think so I only use millers oils they are used by enthusiast world wide including independent Porsche specialist their oils are second to none in my opinion am sure no one goes racing with halfrauds engine oil either....youll find there are more companies selling it than making it.

Complete bks mate. If GM sign it off it is good for me. Oil is oil at the end of the day. Anyone involved with pork is a crook anyway.stu vxr said:

Care to elaborate why millers are better.rather than if these people use them they must be better. Also how do you know no one races with halfords oil ??

Who makes the OEM stuff?
Depends on who can offer it the cheapest, usually. For the aftermarket it's usually one of the larger independent blenders. The exception to this is the factory fill stuff, which is predominantly Castrol or Mobil, possibly Fuchs on occasions. As has been said before, nothing wrong with the Halfords stuff, oil specs are important but you need to understand them, to fully appreciate the differences and what they can or cannot imply. Don't get me started on OEM approvals...

I've done some research in the last week or so...boredom is a bad thing
It seems all Palmer sport single seaters and all msv track day cars use halfords oil among many others
Well actually Comma oil which is who supplies Halfords
This is true. I know it's easy to knock halfords but they do try but it's no easy task training all their staff many of whom just aren't interested or just don't have time. All the Halfords oils have supporting data going back to original oem specs where indicated and have been tested to the same standard as all of the leading brands.
