Has anyone driven around the nc500? Thinking of doing it in the ro, not sure if there're enough petrol stations!

Petrol stations are not an issue, unless you need super unleaded...

If you do, then you should certainly research beforehand and even make a few telephone calls to check that they have the stuff in stock or are expecting a tanker delivery etc. I did this and we were able to do the full route (and then some extra). It did come close on one of the days, but I had 2 x 10L jerry cans full of Shell's finest in the car just in case. Didn't need them in the end though.

There are no Shell garages north of Inverness, but thankfully there are plenty of Gleaner branded garages, and many of these sell super unleaded.

Also worth noting the opening and closing times of the garages, as most are not 24/7, and some don't open at all on Sundays.

I made the following notes for super unleaded petrol stations - might be useful to you, no guarantee that they are still accurate mind.

Also:
Gleaner
Onich
PH33 6RZ
Tel: 01855 821276

and:
Gleaner
Ben Nevis Service Station
A82
Fort William

Where I've filled in the past because I've heard Gleaner's Super un-leaded is, in fact, Shell V-Power. Gleaner is Shell's "Agent" in the Highlands. Most used to be Shell stations until a few years ago.

Tesco Inverness does indeed have 99. I go up every year and that's the last 99 the car has till we come home.
Gleaner super is only 97 so must be diluted if it's based on 99! (Or 99 is boosted from 97!).

Another for the super list is Gulf, Broadford on Skye. Next to a (relatively for the area) large Co-op so two birds killed etc

Do the journey, best roads and scenery in the UK bar none. Just watch out for the midges smile

Me,Mikey and Paul did it(and a few detours) over the 1st weekend in September. Have driven it many, many times in the past before it was named the NC500! Will be going again this September in the Monaro. Plan a wee winter trip too sometime soon. Will take the wee Corsa Nurburgring and Mikey has a Cooper GP. Best roads and views.

Why dont you make the Scotland meet for 2017 go and do this full route, could be ACE.

What you think.

It's 4 or 5 days of solid driving. Not everyone wants that. It's only really manageable in small numbers anyhow.

Then there's the difficulty in planning a date that suits all. This route really needs to be done after the kids have gone back to school but before the weather turns. We dropped on perfectly this last year.

Too late! The Scottish schools break up before the end of June.
But I know what you mean, the English schools far outnumber the Scots.
