Hi,
My car a 2004 CV8 needs its standard brakes sorting out, I was wondering if an upgrade to the VXR front calipers was a straight swap? I would assume so. There seem to be some for sale at decent prices in Oz. Unless someone on here has a set in the garage! Do they make a difference. I know they are no AP or wortec brakes but they are a lot more reasonable in price and I don't hammer my brakes very often.
cheers Rob

Hi mate. Yes it's a straight swap. I did this to my 2004 CV8. You will need the calipers, brackets and discs. At the front you have to bend the shields out a bit as the discs are larger but no biggie. The rears are straight forward too and actually share the same caliper, it's only the bracket which spaces it further away to accommodate the larger disc, and a larger pad. It certainly made a decent improvement (EBC yellow stuff pads) for the money. Think I paid £200 for a complete set second hand. Going with braided lines would no doubt improve things further too if you have the budget.

Can someone confirm for me if a set of 05 VXR brakes will go on an 05 facelift CV8 and if they are actually the upgraded (bigger) discs/calipers and not the same as I have (given its the same year) Also what work over an above swapping them out is required.
Thanks in anticipation
The front caliper mounting holes are BIGGER on the 05 CV8 than the VXR. So no, unless you machine them to suit. Thanks in anticipation
But, they are only 5mm bigger with the same calipers, so bit of a waste of time IMO.
Thanks very much for the info, the previous owners spent a lot of money at your place and is a credit to them and your company. On the info it appears a pointless exercise unless it AP`s or other BIG brake systems. I keep seeing that a VXR brake upgrade is a good idea on the CV8 if AP`s are too much, I take it then that this is incorrect.

Its a good idea on the 04 CV8 which had/has intolerably poor brakes. The VXR are a useful 'fast road' upgrade, and will be fine for every day driving, but will still be found wanting if you have any serious performance mods and/or drive hard and fast on the road or track.Cheers for the reply, mines an facelift 05 as stated and a quick phone call to The Fish confirmed no real benefit to be had if decent pads already fitted. I don't drive to mental and may have the odd spin on a circuit but nothing too excessive at this time, that may well change though in time
I had a 05 CV8 monaro and upgraded the brakes to the Later VXR discs and calipers, I can't remember the diameter of the old cv8 discs but the Vxr ones I fitted were 330mm diameter, you do have to open up the mounting bracket holes, I think to 14mm they need to be done on a machine drill bed as they do need to be spot on, if you want them drilled I can do them for you foc

Thanks for the info mate, appreciated. I think I will just upgrade the discs and pads for now after taking advice from MonkfishOr CTS-V calipers with Camaro discs...not sure how easy the discs are to get here though, and obviously a bit more fussy machining/fitting.
i went to Ap's on my 04 monaro , yes not cheap but well worth doing and well worth the money when they are on the car , a standard car no mods and not driven hard with updated discs and pads you can get away with it , but any hard driving and mods standard brakes are hopeless my discs kept getting small cracks and loads of brake fade even with yellow stuff pads
