Is this a worthwhile task on the Monaro or best left alone? I have no issues at present but the MAF was an item on the RX8 which did benefit from cleaning and an ECU reset so I want to know if the car would benefit from this

I was having some issues with mine so Googled about cleaning MAFs. The general feeling was it'll improve it for a few weeks then you'll have the same issue again.

I cleaned mine thoroughly and things were a lot better, until a month or so later and it was back to where it was. I bought a new one in the end which fixed the issue for good.

When you look at the MAF sensor, if it appears clean then leave well alone. I believe cleaning it can cause issues as it is a delicate thing!.

Thanks John, I use CRC Air Sensor Cleaner which I just spray on, its very good and bought the RX8 MAF up a treat without touching it. I will probably just have a look and if it seems reasonable I wont bother, I need to check the air and pollen filters as well so a few quick jobs when we get a dry day

Mine caused an issue where it disabled the traction control! Never tried cleaning, took it to MF and they replaced it. As above they can seem to cause weird issues that don't (to the uninitiated) seem related.

Still learning the car, thanks for the replies it will be left well alone for now. Whilst on the subject of induction my CV8 is running a K+N filter in the standard set up. I have tried looking up a decent CAI on the forum search but struggling.

Any one else have experience with CAI on the CV8 or is the stock set up sufficient?

they do over the radiator kits (otr)that would be a better way forward , stock is fine in stock tune , there is an option of a larger maf and intake pipe still uses stock airbox with a k and n , but otr kits are best which can be maf of mafless how big are your pockets , exhaust first if not done yet lol

Exhaust was done right through to headers with a Wortec at the Fish a few years ago along with a remap so I'm guessing any tinkering with the induction would require another map anyway. Pockets at this time of year aren't bulging (are they ever) so will probably leave it for now, brake upgrade and a look at the clunky diff first

I fitted a VCM induction kit to my 05 spec CV8 quite a few years ago. I bought this from Monkfish. It was a simple kit really but it was a pain to fit. I think I had to drill a small hole to secure it.
These things are not exactly cheap to buy, especially when you look at the parts in the kit itself.
what I will say is this kit was the first performance mod I made on my car, and when I put my foot down, I could hear the difference in the exhaust note of my then stock exhaust system......So it certainly flows the air!
That reminds me I have never cleaned the cone filter yet. I'm not sure about cleaning these things as the engine can suck up any residual oil/cleaner from the filter and screw up the MAf sensor. I might just play it safe and buy a new filter on its own.

Most of the time you can just rinse them under the tap and then let it dry thoroughly. No need for oil or cleaner.

Don't forget, only run the water inside to outside so the dirt falls away from the filter and doesn't get more embedded.
