This noise has been frustrating me for some time now. Don't tend to hear it much on motorways, but as most of my driving is in town and on uneven town surfaces it intensifies it. I've pretty much isolated it down to the rubber around the door, I've tried the usual products such as gummi pflege etc but has made no difference. I adjusted the door striker plate slighty which reduced some of the more severe noises but I can still hear the rubber rubbing and now winters coming can't keep the windows down to ignore it. Its as if the doors loose and rubbing but there doesn't seem to be any play in it.

I'm at a loss what to try next, it could simply be the rubber is knackered? Any suggestions or anyone had this before? If its a new door seal would it be Monkfish or Vauxhall direct - I've taken a quick look and not been able to find anything obvious?

Thanks :-)

I remember many years ago the front drivers door on my Omega drove me crazy when it made the same noise you are describing.
I tried all sorts of silicon sprays and car cleaning products, none of which worked. The door or striker plate probably wont need adjusting, as car doors do move slightly when driving.
I eventually cleaned the door seal with a strong solution of soap and water (nothing with any wax or silicon) and over a period of time it went away.
I think spraying door seals with things like furniture polish or bumper cleaning spray just makes things worse.

Good luck, John

In an episode of Wheeler Dealers, they found a water leak in an Aston Martin by running a rented smoke box inside. The leaking gasket was immediately found. Rather than replacing the door gasket, which apparently would be verrrry expensive, the mechanic bolstered out the offending bit of door gasket by stuffing it with a small-diameter vacuum hose.
