My 05 CV8 needs a new wheel bearing. I have been quoted £658 to replace - £354 of that is the part. Is this bonkers?

front or rear , and yes that's pricy if it's the rear , i bought the bearing and the circlip which you need for about 100£ , i was charged about 50£ in labour , if you look in faq all explained , if it the front it's more expensive but i don't think that much

Its a front bearing - looks like its a complete unit, 5 years ago monkfish had them at about £165 (I searched this site and found it in a thread) and noted they were easy to fit.

i looked on MF site i could not find them , i am sure they will have one , ive heard they are easier to fit than the rears but the rears are not that bad , i'm assuming price quoted was vauxhall dealer ? i don't see any reason it would cost that much , i've not done one it may even be a driveway job depending on your car knowledge

Search "hub assembly monaro". Price for hub is not far adrift, but fitting is pretty straight foward. Shouldnt take long unless you round the allen bolts.

Thanks MF much appreciated, left you a telephone message yesterday - this is all I needed so don't worry about phoning me back. Super service and knowledge as per usual! Will go back and query the labour charge.

Why not order from rock auto dot com, and have it shipped to you? They range from 40 dollars to 222 dollars.

The rear is press fitted and likely needs the entire trailing arm removed to put in a press. Front is not much work.

Agree with you - I replaced the off side rear at 55k and the near side at 102k.
Off side sounds as if it needs changed again...107k.

I got a brand new pair of hubs/bearings for £100 delivered + some import tax.
If you can change a wheel you can change the hubs.It took me 30 mins to replace both.
