Just had to get a brand new battery for my VXR8, other one did not even last 2 years. Mind you, i hardly use my car really, didn't really use the battery conditioner as much as i should of either.

Battery didn't stand a chancebiggrin

What i would like to know is, what should my battery gauge be indicating under normal driving conditions, also the oil pressure gauge to. Have seen some cars with battery gauge indicating just over 14 volts, oil pressure just pass 4, this is a car that is for sale, so would imagine just ticking over for the pictures and illumination of dials.

i don`t think mine have ever been this high.

Thanks.

Regards Dave.

My battery gauge is normally at least 14 when the engine's on, more like 14.3 or 14.4. Cant remember what oil pressure is at rest but i'd guess about 3 (have to go check now!)

Hi, thanks for the reply to this.

Just checked mine, battery is 14.4 / 14.5, oil pressure round about 3.

So all is good i think.

Its just that i`ve seen a car for sale, as you do, where the battery needle was right round nearly, but its a 6.0 VXR8, just noticed the gauges are numbered differently. But oil pressure is on 4.

Dials are here if anyone interested, but, perhaps notbiggrinlaugh

Remember it's not telling you battery voltage (unless ignition is on and engine isn't running). It's telling you system voltage.

If it's up close to 15v that's ok, but it's there cos the system is charging the battery (pretty hard). It should drop towards 13v over time as the battery charges.

If you only ever do short runs you'll only ever see it in the 14's and your battery will be slowly dying.....

Dave, if you don't use it much, get a battery conditioner on it, and leave it on it when the car isn't being used.

Lidl are currently (from last Sunday) selling their Ctek style chargers for around £14.

Another cheap and handy purchase is this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Suaoki-15000mAh-Intellige...

I've just bought one to keep in ours, as the battery is now 5 years old, and you can't bump start an auto.
