On the way home earlier, check engine light comes on.

Last week I had headers and cats fitted. WP advised the extra heat can mess with the leads and recommended HT leads. Didn't bother at the time because I thought they might hold until service in Jan. I'm hoping this error message is due to the leads.

I have felt that the car was "holding back" a little over last couple days. So gonna change the leads.

Couple of questions though.

Can anyone recommend where I can get a set of HT leads next day delivery? I'm going away Sunday so need them ASAP.

Can you get any extra protective socks for the leads? To guard against the Heat?

Can disconnecting the battery and leaving it for 10 mins clear the error code?

Thanks all. Problem after problem lately :-(

Socks yes. Look on eBay. They do them and work great. Mine rest on my headers and perfectly protect my leads.

Great cheers :-). I've not had a good record with finding the right gear online. Do you happen to have a link?

The fish can get you a set of leads in the post for the next day. I've got heat socks that rest on the headers too and I still occasionally melt a lead, it'll probably be the n/s (passenger side) one at the back under the bulk head most probably, although whenever I've had the check engine light come on it's been the lamda sensors not when I've melted a lead

Do you have a code reader?

I'm putting my money on you're still running rear o2s...

Thanks Aitch H, I'll get on the blower to MF tomorrow and get the leads ordered. Where'd you get the socks from? Can't find anything online!

Good point Mud. I'll check with WP tomorrow about the O2's as it was just a cat back system until a week ago.

I don't have a code reader, but after the series of issues I've had lately, I want one.

Anyone know of any link to one you'd recommend?

A code reader is worth a try, but a lot of CELs don't seem to latch. No promises on an OBDII jobbie.

I had headers and cats done by AAS and they fitted me some msd ht leads and you can bend the to suit.
And I bought some titanium heat socks from United States.
Give aas a ring in Newcastle as they might stock the ht leads.

Thank all, I shall be ordering today.

I forgot to mention I also had the centre silencer replaced with an X-pipe.

Based on what I've been able to find online, am I right in saying the Check Engine Light is unlikely to be caused by a lead and it's more likely a sensor issue?

If I still have the rear O2's in place, what are my options? Can they just be 'deleted' electronically?

I had headers and cats fitted by WP last October and about 3 months ago I had a check engine light come on. It's been a bit of a tale of woe getting it fixed (still not there yet) but I suspect the problem is with the heated O2 sensors (not fans, relays, wiring or rear O2 sensors as new parts have all been tried out [all on the same fuse]). I don't think it's related to the new headers/cats but I'm just putting it out there!

Also, I've noticed that the front right HT lead has been sitting on the new header pipe and has melted very slightly - so I've ordered some of the aforementioned socks (ebay 272094743119)....

Removing the rear o2s from the map is doing it properly, but you'll need a hptuners or efi live license and someone with the gear. Some people have had success with spacing the o2s, but not sure if long-term.

Hi Netstar1, if you don't mind me asking, what difference has doing that made? Does it add a lot of volume?

I'm asking as I've had a 3" fatback fitted with centre and rear silencers but no balance pipe and it doesn't sound right at all.
I've had cutouts fitted pre- centre silencers but I'd like to regain the burble on "stealth mode" without it upsetting the neighbours.

Hey Rusty,

It does have a lovely burble at low revs, but when you open the throttle, it really does go up to 11.

I'd say the noise has less of a "bass" about it, but makes up for it in aggressiveness when giving it some. That being said, I think its quieter when pootling along, quite the opposite when giving it a bit of stick!

Thanks Mud. I though so. I've ordered myself a code reader and will find out what that says tomorrow. The map was adjusted for the new exhaust, but not "deleting" the O2 sensors. I guess it's not an exact science.

I shall update you all once I have read the fault code. Will look to update the map if they are the issue.
