Hi all,

I want to check my coolant level - but want to make sure I don't break the 2 clips that hold the plastic cowl in place (advice is to check via the radiator cap of course).

Do I lever off with a screwdriver ... or is it more subtle?

I should probably be able to figure it out - but don't want to take any chances.

Thank you in anticipation,

Ian

You don't need to remove the panel on an ls2. There is a hump in the plastic panel on the drivers side that flicks out to reveal the rad cap

But to answer the question about the clip you pry up the mushroom shape bit preferably with a trim clip remover then once it's up enough you should be able to remove the remainder of the clip base

It looks very clean and tidy under there, I can understand why you don't want to damage the clips smile

As mentioned above, the flap on the left hand side should open to give access to the rad cap thumbup

Thank you kind sir - had it all steam cleaned when I had the engine rebuilt eekrecently.

If you can make it up to Chester on Sunday (see sticky) I could tell you all about it.

;-)

Best regards

Ian

(I thought that too (about the flap) ... but it seems to be part of the cowl).

If it's a later model that flap no longer lifts up you have to remove the cover

In order to answer your question, yes, to remove those clips, insert a small flat blade screwdriver in the slot under the rounded head and lift.

I cut the middle prongs off an old fork to do the job.

Ok

It wasn't an old fork but I did get away with it smile

I normally use a flat bladed screwdriver. Sometimes I have to use one on each side, being careful to stab myself in both palms!
The clips are normally pretty robust.
How did you go with the foglights?

Maybe I should get the wife to do it if it's that dangerous. whistle

Still sorting the foglight situation - trying for a business trip at the moment so that I can bring my own back.

Thank you for asking and the advice.

Cheers

Ian

hehe

There are specific trim removal tools that should stop anybody getting stabbed accidentally if that ends up being a concern smile

Worked a treat!

(Struggling to eat peas now for some reason though).
