Big Bang, flying pulley
Discussion
No, I've not had the crank pulley changed.
Looking through all receipts now. Last owner had crank changed in May 2014.
Today I had AC idler pulley, charger pulley and bearing, and front belts.
How's this bolt been in for 2 years, then works it way completely out 90 miles after I had work done?
There's 2 belts at the front right? Really long and a short one?

That crank bolt that you are holding (If the genuine GM item) is a torque to yield and should only be used once. I can tell you that the torque applied is enormous and requires a really long extension on the bar and socket to apply the final toque(Angle). If they didn't do this or have used the old bolt you will be having problems.
You could get an ARP aftermarket item that can be used again.
Check your pulley and crank snout to make sure there isn't any damage there.
Bit of a co incidence there, unfortunately, but it happens.

Yeah, I was thinking the same, just needed reassuring. It was WP that changed the pulleys today and I have 100% confidence in them.
Just seemed odd that after just 90 miles. Bang.
If its any consolation, I've had a few myself. (Not ever used WP BTW). I think its part of the "Holden experience".Just seemed odd that after just 90 miles. Bang.

Given the work you list requires not touching that bolt at all, I'm going to say it's just coincidence.Just seemed odd that after just 90 miles. Bang.
Unless you can speak to whoever worked at it, to find out if the touched the bolt, or attempted to undo it etc.
What condition is the front pulley in ? aside from the fact it's no longer attached to the engine ? Was it wobbling or anything ?
And given it's broke and come right off.....very possible the crankshaft is also damaged. You're in for a pretty hefty repair bill here.

Looking at posts in your profile, does your engine have a supercharger fitted ? If it has the pulley needs to be drilled and pinned, has this been done ? If it hasn't then the pulley will come undone at some point.
This indeed. And also if the bit that's broke off is stuck in the crank...another reason for an engine out repair.
The torque for these bolts are silly, although I think it's lower on later cars than the very early LS1's etc. I've re-used bolts on my own before...but I've also never torqued them to factory specs !! it just seems far too high, but my pulley has always been pinned/keyed and I always threadlock them too.
Thanks for all your help guys.
I've had it assessed. Looks like no damage, but bolt seems to be dodgy. Looks like it's been cut to length! WP as eager to see it as cont understand why it's been used on crank.
Only problem is now getting the car in its current state from South Wales to WP.
Looking at a few options. Anyone got a suggestions? Experience?

It may have been a cut down ls7 bolt, those are longer the the others.
Can you not fit a new bolt, torque it up correctly and take a steady drive to where you need to go or won't that work? A brand new/unused bolt will loctite itself in place. You use an old bolt or studded bar to pull the pulley onto the crank before finally fitting the new bolt.

As boosted mentioned, put it back together with the old bolt, bearing in mind there is a little seal that goes on the end of the engine side of pulley, see if it is on the end of pulley or on end of crank shaft, are you in the AA or RAC ?

Really don't want to risk driving it until
I know it's sorted. Been so stressed about it.
Got a couple quotes for delivery from
£140. Would rather pay it for peace of mind.
Haven't confirmed anything yet, but Dave and WP have been awesome, offered to move some
upgrade work I booked earlier to do all at same time.

I can understand, are you not in AA or rac as they would take your car to WP ?
