Best way to 500hp N/A
Discussion
Best ?
Cheapest ? Other ?
427 ? New Crate ? http://www.partsworldperformance.com/ls3-376-525-v... ( depending on crank/cam trigger suitability, but just an example )
Or do you want to re-work your own ? Heads, cam, intake, exhaust manifolds and tuning etc etc

Induction, heads and cam and re-map
Ian.
In other words, everything! I think I'm right in saying everyone with 500fwhp (~400whp) on here with an NA LS1/LS2 has all the bolt-ons and a relatively modest cam (i.e. MOT borderline acceptable, duration not much past 220s/low 230s). Ian.
I have owned my ls2 monaro vxr going on for seven years now and for a long time I was planning more power and wanted the same as you, I did a lot of research did a lot of reading on forums etc, I wanted to stay Na but when you compare the cost with FI there really wasn't anything in it, yes I know a charger is expensive but so is that power if you want to stay NA.
I went for the charger because I wanted guaranteed power but retain the driveability of the car something that in my opinion you won't get with cam etc. My advice finally is decide exactly what you want write it down etc drive a few different cars, I drove many Inc a mapped 400 bhp rs focus then speak with Roger Keys he is the most honest man I have met. Good luck!

I've got 486.2bhp N/A achieved using a lumpy barely MOT legal cam, 5 way CNC ported polished ls2 heads, fast intake & throttle body, high ratio rockers, VCM air intake, 1.75" primary pipes, sports cats and a 2.5" full system with no back box and a full bespoke map done by Paul from Wortec. Monkfish can supply all the parts for around £4000 then you've got fitting. So as previously mentioned it is expensive but I wanted N/A instead of FI and to be honest it hasn't made it too undrivable, I use it as my daily driver. It is a little choppy/lumpy but I like that and it shakes the car on tickover but that's part of the fun of owning/running a V8! Hope this helps

Sell that wheezy old 6.0-litre lump and buy a stroked motor built with all the best parts. Monkfish put one together years ago that pushes well into the 500s and has never had any problems. Trouble is, where to find one
That's two references on two threads in the last week about a N/A 'stroked' or N/A 6.8L engine......I take it you've got one that you want to sell?!?!Sell? Maybe. It's in the way in my garage now, instead of cluttering up Gary's workshop. I really should just get it fitted to a car and use it. Trouble is I also have a supercharger that needs an engine and this one isn't built with FI in mind (notch higher on the compression than a stock LS2).
Also, the trouble with selling us that most people think a properly build NA engine is cheap, which it ain't. Price a FAST intake, throttle body and rails and you'll see what I mean.

Heads, intake and Cam are going to be the key on N/A as you need it to breath as best as possible.
Heads around 1200
Cam kit around 6-700
Intake another 800
you will likely want headers to help with the whole process at another 6-700 for proflow or 1200 for something more well known.
so as stated 4k is not unreasonable for the parts needed.
But at this cost you might as well look at an LSX or pre tuned LS3 and swap the engine unless you really want to do the build yourself or spread the cost over multiple upgrades. .

I know.....ref: either my earlier post on this thread or check my 'My CV8' thread from a while back, however.........if there's a deal to be done a 6.8 does sound appealing

spreading the cost is an option as doing things like heads will benefit forced induction if I changed my mind. Did not really plan on changing the engine but could then sell the LS2 on to cover some of the costs. Heads around 1200

Sounds like the LS2 is not that versatile or am I wrong. Forgot to add it is a daily driver.

The LS2 is plenty versatile. If your goal is 500bhp, then an LS2 with cam/heads will get you there.Sounds like the LS2 is not that versatile or am I wrong. Forgot to add it is a daily driver.
If it was as cheap to fit an LS3, wouldn't everyone be doing it?? Plus, I've heard the emissions on the pre-tuned LS3 crate engines are not great, so if you were to go down that route, do your reasearch.

this is a good recipe to copy and has proven to be very fast at thunder road as well 404rwhp (circa 500 at the fly) and over 170mph in a standing mile.
