Noticed about week ago a repetitive squeak on start up that sounds like one of the pulleys.

It gets much quieter as the engine heats up but it's still faintly there. Recently had the supercharger bearings changed, so not that.

Stupid question, but am I ok to try a bit of WD40 at the centre of each pulley

I had similar with my NA Monaro a trip to my local motor factors for Belt Dressing & £6 later no more squeals

I have subsequently changed the belts, but they shut up there n then

NB you do need to follow the instructions on the can about letting it dry...

I also had a squeak which was coming from one of the pulley's,
a common issue.
In the end,to save messing about, I replaced all the pulley's and belts at the same time.Problem solved.
Every once in a while I use belt dressing to keep thing nice and quiet.

Thanks chaps,

Service was done in Jan and all belts were replaced then. Also had a new pully assembly fitted in April. Wouldnt need changing again surely?!

Hmm, I'l have to pin the noise down to a specific pulley.

For what they cost, replace all pulleys when you first buy the car, they will never be a problem after that, also replace all the belts with new, put old ones in the boot, one day they may be a life saver, you can't fit a set of women's tights these days to ribbed pulleys smile

Over time drive belts dry out and crack depending on age. If you spray belt dressing on them it helps to prevent this and stop's any squeaking.
It doesn't last forever, you need to apply it once in a while.

I've had new belts and new pulleys but the squeak still came back eventually so I traced it to the tensioner pulley removed it and put a small amount of grease on the bearing seals on the back refitted it no more squeak smile

I dare say the Fish will put me right if I've got this wrong, but here goes...

With the engine running, pour some water over the belt. If it stops squeaking temporarily it's the belt.

If it keeps squeaking it's the pulley, and belts are cheap enough that you should change them when you take them off anyway.

Belt dressing is horrid stuff that flicks off under your bonnet as it desperately tries to stop belts complaining that they are tired out and need replacing. Save your money, don't buy any, and put the money towards a new belt.

Thanks all,

It had new belts 3-4 months ago, so I'm guessing pulley.

Always is the pulleys, they start squeaking, more so when in colder damper weather to start with but then they are more constant, they can do that for ages and comes and goes, worst case scenario is one decides to seize and that's when the st hits the fan, pardon the pun smile the plastic pulley then melts and your stuck or overheating somewhere remote, best to change the lot, if your ok with spanners, do it yourself, not hard to do.

Haha, I know! I know!

I've got it booked in at walkies next week. Eyeing up a few other goodies while I'm there. Be rude not to!

Worst part is I'm going to have to drive my Mrs mini about for a week and a bit. Can feel myself going all camp already. :-D

Thanks all!

Lol best to get them all changed, not a massive outlay considering the noise and consequences if one was to seize up, the mini is a luxury compared to old Astra van I use most of the time smile
