Quick question I started up my VXR8 auto earlier and it eventually turned over very slowly with a what felt like a misfire. I then drove round the block and it was in limp mode and had no power. I then stop started the engine several times which again seemed a struggle and the check engine light came on with the same misfire, the car was literally juddering when dropping it into drive. Turned it off and went inside looking for my laptop and a ODB2 reader.

After leaving the car 30mins its now starting fine and driving as normal from what I can tell. Got the ODB2 working and it pulled 2 codes - it's only freeware so nothing fancy but I'm assuming its reading the codes correctly, I'm not 100% sure what they are referring to, the stored code that I've now cleared was reporting C0301 and I've got a pending code C0700, I think the pending codes are repeat errors?

Does any one know what these codes may actually be, not finding any obvious on google?

Right your machine seems to be part reading correct and p0301 is cylinder number 1 misfire.

P0700 is a TCM code transmission control module and is more likely to be a default code thrown up by the p0301 cylinder number 1 misfire error that needs looking into.

Thanks Dale, really helpful - that's what you get for using freeware :-)

Least that points me in the right direction, cheers.

Have you checked the battery condition in the dash / steering wheel engineering mode.

If the battery is weak on VXR8 start up they can throw all sorts of Xmas tree lights on the dash and run rough until sorted

The TCM error code gets generated by low voltage/dying battery a lot of the time. Normally it will stick it in 3rd and you'll get power, just no other gear. I would start with the battery if you don't know how old or good it is.

Cheers, hopefully not the battery as I did fit a new one approx. 1 year ago, it was the recommended Bosch battery described elsewhere in this forum.

It still could be. My VXR8 seems to chew through a bettery every 12 to 18 months

I've given up worrying about it, accept it as a fact of life and get a spare in after 12 months.

Interesting, fair point, the voltage is showing at 11.4v in the engineering mode, not sure what normal would be and if that's considered low?

What's it showing V-wise when cranking over as that can throw a spanner in the works once started

11.4 volts is too low with the ignition on, it should be at 12volts ignition on.

I suspect your battery is past its best and I missed this when replying earlier.

I have no end of problems in my game due to batteries more so on these new cars.

If the car isn't used regularly, then get a battery conditioner on it, while it's not in use. Lack of use is the big killer with these cars.
