Hi all,

Anyone happen to know if the petrol tank on a VE Ute is the same as on a VXR8?

Something went through the bottom of mine yesterday so new one will be required pronto. Was just curious as to how tricky it was going to be to find one.

I think that a call to WP is first thing on the agenda for tomorrow.

Thanks

Phil

Ouch. Sorry to hear that.

They're the same size (in litres) so there's a good chance that they didn't include the tank in the wheelbase stretch.

Pontiac G8 part number is 92202090 and they're about $700 in the US and then the same again for shipping from Newgmparts, so you'd be looking at over £1000

See if you can get a part number for the Ute, and if it's the same then I would see if Raving or Speed4u have one.

if the tank isn't that badly damaged, surely it would be cheaper to take it out and have it wielded?

I think they're plastic, and I'm not sure I'd trust a plastic welded tank.

They are plastic Ian and Ian. As that's why it split from some road debris

Ah, didn't appreciate they are plastic !!

No, I wouldn't want it plastic wielded either.

If they are plastic, why so blooming expensive ?

Good question

Presumably it has to be specific plastic to withstand petrol and its also quite a complex shape?

Either way, its VERY expensive!

And the good news is.......

Its a different part number to the VXR8 apparently. So looks like it is a wait for one from Aus.

On the plus side, local garage have managed to patch it up so at least its not dripping petrol everywhere

Guess you won't be using the UTE on Saturday then.

I might be

Depends on how well they have patched it up. Otherwise it could well be a while before the Ute sees the light of day depending on lead times from Aus.
