rear view 1km, only got 1 run as clutch started slipping after that, amazed it's lasted this long ! Will need to wait another year for the 200mph attempt to beat more of those damned GTR's, they just go too fast.

Nicely done.
Is it gearing or grip that's the biggest problem.
It certainly makes me want to get mine back together for sure.

Traction is limited to the 1/4...ie 1-4 gears and 150mph. So over last few years this really hasnt changed much and unless I can either lose a lot of weight or find a lot of grip...that will remain the same.
Compared to the GTR's my car picks up more speed after the 1/4 than they do over same distance, they trap a good bit higher at the 1/4, some 10-15mph ( or more ) although that isnt carried through at the 1km for most of them. I'm gaining maybe 45mph or so...a lot of them only 35-40mph over same distance although as they're starting at a higher speed they're also covering the ground quicker.

In 5th gear it does pull well, obviously the distinct lack of aerodynamics is hurting vs the other cars despite the results.
On that run, gearing/rpm did play a role as most of the weekend I was just using my 18" road wheels/tyres...strangely they seemed to work better than the Mickey Thompson DR's over the 1/4 so never bothered changing them for the 1km run

With hindsight the smaller circumference 18's did hurt things as it would definitely have pulled harder at the higher speeds with the taller MT's which would see me cross the 1km around 6200rpm vs the 6600rpm or so I did with the 18's

But alas none of it mattered anyway, on my 2nd run as soon as I pulled 5th gear the clutch let go. Wasnt any point trying again after that.

Time to change my baby cam for something a bit bigger to help things to around 7k or so. If I could move peak power to near 7k I think that would make a huge difference.

Although track timing says a little higher this year...VBox says last years time/speed ( on MT DR's ) was a little quicker. Really very little between them though.

Last year 0-190mph was 18.0s . Largely it was just a better run, a bit more grip. 1/4 alone was 0.4s quicker etc.
This year 0-190mph was 18.99s

Well done again Stevie, Epic as always to watch you going down the strip.

The monster head wind on Saturday was horrible. I was trapping at 114-115 on the Saturday and then 119 on the Sunday. I didn't bother with the flying Km after breaking the gearbox on my first run of the weekend laugh The torque strips all the teeth off 4th or 5th once every 2 years or so. Thankfully I predicted a breakage and had taken up a spare gearbox, transfer box, clutch and flywheel which I swapped out at the side of the track. Sunday was bang or bust for me and I managed my PB of 11.84 @ 119 .

The rear view is the best..especially if you slay your friend laugh

Watching you it seems you really struggle low down and then around the 1/8th you seem to really get going at a frightening rate ! Cant wait to see it heading down the strip next year cool

Got to take the lifetime award for being the most amazing sleeper. I love the way it still has the old spotlights on the bumper smile

Are you allowed to run slicks or is it street-trim only? With one notable exception (Andy Hadfield's magnificent Twister) all 'street' tyre RWD cars at York struggle to pull better than a 10-second pass. When I swap to slicks my ET drops by 1.5-seconds and speeds rise accordingly. In contrast Andy Forrest was pulling 8-second passes in his 4WD Impreza with drag radials. Maybe it's time to source a front diff and transfer box...

What speeds are the GTRs pulling?

There are quite a few cars running "slicks"...well, DOT slicks but they may as well be full slicks.

Traction is a funny old thing....as are tyres.

At local events a few years back I tried ET Streets, MT DR's and Hoosier DR's. For me at that venue the Hoosier DR worked best, with the MT ET Street wrinkle wall the slowest.

Roll on this year.

I've run better and more consistent times at airfields on these ( a couple of TOTB runs with brand new drag radials excluded over past few years )

http://westlaketiremotorsportseurope.com/product/s...

Cheap and cheerful and work surprisingly well. Fairly easily it'll run low 11's all day at 145-150mph, although it is still spinning the wheels the entire run.

Same venues and run the MT DR's back to back....at 3 events now and this years TOTB included, I've ran slower on the MT DR's. There is just less grip and I've no explanation for it. The MT's are maybe a fraction better on the launch ( all still over 2s ) but everywhere else those damn Westlakes grip better and more consistently for me! and it's quite apparent with traction control active far more heavily during the runs with the MT DR's ( and they were only new last year )
I will be getting a pair of the new Hoosier DR2 at some point next year though. We're hopefully going to the Pod first weekend in September and I've still the MT DR's and some old Hoosier DR's I can use so hopefully they'll work well there.
As long as new clutch arrives in time and works as they claim !

The top 15 results from this years. Given I was probably only user on pump fuel and true road tyres on that list....not too shabby lol even ignoring what my car is. It really does make me chuckle.

Those GTRs are bonkers fast. Struggle to see any RWD cars beating them TBH.

Love that Astra van sneaking in there at the bottom of the chart. Guessing it wasn't FWD?

What you need in the old Capri trick: Few bags of concrete in the boot. Does wonders for traction wink

Just reread your last post. I take it the GTRs were all running race fuel or various forms of alcohol?

I wish that these 'street' car events really were just that - for street cars: UK legal tyres and petrol. Maybe introduce a class for what are effectively dragsters.

They seemed to favour C85 at least that's what there were most drums lying about the place.

Although to be fair to the GTR's a lot of them are more road cars than some other cars that used to take part and some that still do.

Although their tyres, lack of CAT's etc would have them fall foul of any legit MOT etc....all of them would be totally usable road cars.

And the Astra van is very much fwd !! It was quickest fwd over the 1km last year too, a very impressive machine.

A rwd car could challenge the GTR's, but it would need to be mid or rear engined.

Or if I could fit some 335's or something out back that would help me a lot, but for well over 200+ in 1km...my car would take too much work.

I've seen the Aussie cars....just cant warm to the bodykits though ! And then it'd be finding suitable wheels.

But it would be an option ! Still doesnt resolve all the weight in all the wrong places though lol
