Hi all,
I am currently importing some 1"7/8 headers from Aus for my 5.7 VXR Monaro, I am then going to look at getting a different camshaft this winter, probably a 240/244 .605/.596 112 from here; http://vengeanceracing.net/vengeance-racing-vindic... as from reading some of the comparisons in the states, this seems to fit the bill. I'll then possibly look at a FAST 102 also.
So my spec will be;
5.7 LS1
1"7/8 headers with 100 cell sports cats, 2.5" Wortec cat back
240/244 .605/.596 112 camshaft with double valve springs and hardened pushrods
Standard 241 casting LS1 heads
LS6 inlet with matched TB / FAST 102 and 102 TB.
My question is, who would be best to map this on the south coast ideally?
The obvious choice is monkfish, but are there any others people recommend?

I would think not....unless it's fitted to a much older vehicle that doesnt require a CAT MOT.

And is the cam suitable for fitting to an otherwise standard engine ok ? std heads, valves, pistons etc ? ( and of course springs/retainers/pushrods )
Not to mention rod/rod bolts if indeed it will sing to 7k.

Hi all, thank you for the replies so far smile.

The cam is suitable for use in a standard LS1, that's it's intended application, to make most use of a fairly stock motor.

Regarding emissions, that's a good point, and one which I will check.

I will be upgrading the valve springs and pushrods at the same time, the supplier offers this in a package, which I will go for.

I would look at a set of LS6 heads to allow your intake to work efficiently and the cam. its a medium/large cam so will want to move a lot of air. the ls1 heads don't do that well.

I know its built for an LS1 but I think the LS6 heads could net you some better HP over the whole range.

Just something to think about.

Paul from Wortec is in the west somewhere, he mapped mine for me £950 for a custom maff-less map and he had it for a couple of days to get it spot on

not a chance in hell that cam will pass emissions tests for UK mot, 224/228 on a 114 lsa is about as high as you can go and scrape through

What he said^^^. Thats a pretty stout cam. Kind of pointless with stock heads.

This was where I read about the cam first, seems to work well in that situation. http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/engines-drivetrai...

LS6, or aftermarket heads might be something worth looking into, but I just think it's making a big job out of it.

As it is, changing to that cam as in the link above would give me what I'm looking for, a nice hike in power and a nice sounding idle, I'm not chasing figures.

The article does sound good...but it still aint passing a legit MOT in any modern car.
