I have not got up to 9k yet but still on my Goodyear F1's. I like the Goodyear's for a number of reasons. Which are

1) large rim protector.
2) Grip well in the wet
3) Less noisy than the Brigstone S02's that the car came with.
4) They are a bit bigger, so fill the arches a bit more.

Stay with S03's on the HSV and found upping the size to 245/40/18 works well as it gives you more rim protection. Sure it will put the speedo out but then I rely on Road Angel for accuate speed information.

The F1 Eagle is brill on my smart (215/40/16) and another one is the Pirelli Nero Zero, for those who fit oversize tyres, run that on the other smart (215/35/17)and superb grip in the dry, F1 reigns in the wet.

I just put a new set of rears on after 5k

They are Pirelli PZero Rosso 245/35/ZR19 - and the old set were down to legal minimum - only the longitudinal tread was left - they were similar to F1 wets! I still had good grip - they were getting a little too 'fun' tho

Have 7.5k on my car and expect the tyres to last another 3-4k. 1 track day included. If anything, the fronts seem to be wearing more than the rears.

lol!

I find the diff rattles around a bit when you smoke the rear tyres ..... it ruins the refinement!

I have the stage 2 and the AP brakes too ... suspension is very good on the Monaro ... you can get a lot of power down and performance without smoking the tyres ..... but it's interesting when the rears start to loose grip and spin up (at speed) with the tc off .... lol!

Just a cautionary note Cubittus.

The tyres for the VXR should have a 93Y load rating.

245/35/19 pirelli pzero rosso 93Y.

Just make sure to check.

The last Autocar tyre test used a Monaro as the test car for performance tyres. Goodyear F1's just beat Bridgestone SO3. On the my GTS's the best tyres were the late SO2's(why did they stop them!) I have also used SO3's,Continental Sport Contact 2 & Goodyear Eagle F1 . Personally I didn't get on with the SO3's much, I found they broke away to suddenly on corners. The Continentals were really good and probably lasted the longest. The F1's kept winning tyre tests so I switched last year. Very impressed, particulary in the wet. Just a bit better than the Continentals IMO.
It depends on your driving style & how hard you push the car through corners. These aren't light cars, so pushed hard tyre wear will be pretty rapid.
If you want long life from your tyres big V8's may not be the wisest choice!!!

Yep - Those are the ones - the same tyres the VXR came with.
I was only changing rears so wanted to keep the same front and rear.
Next time, I'll change all 4 and maybe look at the F1s. (Another 5000 miles to go )

I had to have a set of tyres today as the originals were down to the wear blocks. 28,295 miles!!!! That's loaded up/and /or towing a trailer most of the time, and 2 track days. And I have a very heavy right foot.
