Anyone had a bad experience with split timing covers? Anywhere to get one from UK-side in a hurry?

Don't think he does. I would have been tempted.

As long as it doesn't leak! Also they're expensive for what they are, and some don't seem to clear Melling oil pumps. I still sort of want one though...

And how often do you really expect to need to "split" the timing cover ?

I've been using LS engines for near 14 years...and never needed to.

I'm on the fence no doubt, but my engine is currently out and I'm considering all options...I am likely to put a bigger cam in later, so it would save some effort later (doubly so if I decide to return to the current 222-226/115).

The only thing it will do is save you from extracting the crank pulley. I have one fitted its a QTP CNC piece very nice but expensive. Can't use a double roller with it. (you only need a single anyway)

I'd think in most cases it would be rather difficult to set the cam timing correctly swapping a cam via that method, unless it's just a line the dots up job ( although to be fair most modern cams these days are ground pretty much spot on )

And obviously you cant put a new chain on etc, which would be nice to do when changing the cam

Yeah, I was and am leaning toward not bothering, just wobbling slightly as right now it's out and easy smile

I had one from Edlebrock and when it came to use it the bolts had siezed as they were not like the OEM bolts which dont rust. Craig had to drill them out!
So I wouldnt bother unless you plan to change cams specifically.

Sounds like no fun at all. I was slightly surprised how quickly the ARP nuts on my studs and the ARP balancer bolt look stty too. Hopefully they're ok.

I probably will swap out the cam again later, but fk it...I'll just make a day of it!
