For the past few years, the centre LCD display on the dash of the Monaro has been geeting dimmer and dimmer (less contrast with the grey background). I got one from someone on here last year and Monkfish fitted in on one of the visits. But they reported there were "issues" with it and not everthing worked as it should, so they put the original back in. This year, its dead, and nothing at all is showing on it, including the odometer display. Its due an MOT at the end of the month, and I am trying to find out if thats a show stopper.

The MOT testers manual;

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploa...

makes no mention of a need for a working odometer, but does say the speedo needs to work and be illuminated. That it does.

Other internet forums seem to suggest that its only the speedo that needs to be working and lit, but there is of course a need to enter the mileage on the certificate.

Has this fading display been an issue for any others, and has it caused any issues at MOT time?

I can't answer your questions directly, but it should be fixable. Get yourself a cheap donor cluster and swap the screen across - one from a Pontiac GTO will work and shouldn't cost more than about $60+shipping (though I'm sure I've had one for £30). If you're competent with a soldering iron it's doable (though fiddly). Sturdy and I have both had our clusters open and the screens off...though for cosmetic reasons.
