Hi guys, got a Monaro vxr. For the past few weeks, probably 3 or 4 times when I've come to start my car it has just clicked, try a couple of times and then it would turn over. Today however it just wouldn't start. I'm guessing it's starter motor related but anybody had similar and know how to fix it? Relay, new starter, dodgy wire connections?

Also every time it has struggled to start the traction off light had appeared but would then go out next time I start it. Must be related but no idea at all why it would be doing that,

Any help appreciated, thanks.

If the trac off comes on, then it pulling the voltage down too far, so either battery or a high resistance somewhere in the start cabling/motor.

Mine does this, I find it's usually after she's been sitting for a wee while (few days). When I eventually get her going the trac control light comes on, typically it's the voltage being a touch low. I've found my monaro is very sensitive to having a good charge in the battery.

it seems like a dodgy battery on monaro's show loads of odd issues. Its the first check.
Second Earth strap.

Yeah looks like the battery is the first thing to check. Thanks to monkfish for suggesting it because of the traction, would never of thought that was battery related. Hopefully it'll work, earth strap next on the list.

Thanks guys.

Just had a quick look at the car and no luck.

Put jump leads on to another car and before my battery dial sat on 12 but with the other battery connected it went over 13 so I thought that would be it but no joy.

I need to move the car where it is so I can jack it up to check the starter motor connections and earth strap. Apart from those wires is there anything else I can check? The traction off light is still on which I'm guessing is my problem.

instead of jump leads swap the battery over..or use a booster.

if you can do a voltage test when trying to start it will show a lot .
if it drops low the battery has probably dropped a cell

I'll give that a go thanks. First thing to do though is to jump it so I can drive it to my dads so I can check it all over, can't do anything parked where it is now really.

Quick question, seen as I'm almost sure that it is either battery or starter related, if bump starting it doesn't work does that mean that the problem is something else?

With a dodgy battery or starter it should bump
