monaro vxr cat removal
Discussion
Hi all my monaro vxr currently has a wortec cat back system and im now thinking of removing the cats completely. does anyone know the implications of doing this? i know a nice man who does my MOT so emissions are not an issue. will it throw up any dash error messages? how louder would it be? would it have any more power? would i also need to consider fitting headers as well? Sorry for so many questions!!
Hey,
Where to start with this. Ok so I have a Wortec cat back but I also have proflow headers too and I had decat pipes made. Your cats are part of your original headers downpipe so to remove them you need replacement headers to go in. Since I did this I've had problems with my car with the EML going on a lot, mainly due to my decats I think. My car sounds like something from nascar thats for sure it's very very loud especially on load.

Not sure of the age of your VXR but I have a single side system. I used to have it as cat back with the load pipes in.
Then I put in the Proflow headers and removed the cats (no legal need for me) and It was too loud. I have since put in my quiet boxes and its nearly perfect.
Here it is in a recent video.

Easy enough to chop out the cat and replace it with a straight piece of pipe. So you wont have to replace the whole header.Where to start with this. You will however have to remove the header to be able to weld the new pipe in

I guess you could but really, you want to put a nice shiny header in there and not faff with the old units. Personal preference of course You will however have to remove the header to be able to weld the new pipe in

Thanks for the info Yanayaya, are the proflow headers readily available in the UK and roughly how much are they? also do they hang low as i have a lot of speed bumps round my way!
They are from oz. VPW sell them. About 600 including tax and delivery. They naturally sit lower as they are huge over stock. But mine only catch if I drive fast over a hump. I'm quite low too.

I'm running these along with standard vxr suspension and I'm totally surrounded by every conceivable speed bump , never touch one yet though I do wince when I'm going over some of them They naturally sit lower as they are huge over stock. What would you say are better? The above headers of AAS headers?
Not seeing AAS headers but knowing a bit about them I would say Quality of the welds will be a bit better with AAS but the ProFlow's are a knock off design of the PaceMakers. the stainless is good quality and they are half the price. AAS I think are mid range length too not long.

They do mid and long, but long is more expensive and you need to take the car to them.AAS I think are mid range length too not long.
I had a set of de-cat pipes made for my CV8. Meet up to my standard headers no problem and connect up to a full Milltek. It does increase volume but not excessively with my exhaust just a nice rumble. Although I also have a set of electric cut outs. With these open it's seriously loud! Which is awesome when you're in the mood. You can get around the warning light issue by adding a set of lambda restrictors to the second set. I got a set of e-bay. Only cheap and do the job well. I'm planning on some short tube HSV style headers next.
Seen some pacemaker headers on the bay of e for £600 including delivery. Does anyone recommend these? also it says for VZ LS2 there are extensions? what are these? do i need to order them too? any help appreciated. tried the bespoke route and they have all told me to get the headers and have the decat pipes fabricated, so this is my plan!

The extensions might be wiring loom extensions (2 off) for the two O2 sensors.Gassing Station | HSV & Monaro | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
