SAD Day - I've got to Sell my HOLDEN GTS VT II
Discussion
Hi,
Due to a new business venture i've got to sell my Holden. I've spent over £300 on advertising on both Autotrader and Ebay, plus talked to a few dealer e.g. LSV etc ?
Does anyone else have any ideas - getting desperate for the cash now.
If you want to view the spec it's still on the website of the company i brought it from :-
www.sovereigncarsales.co.uk/
Under their amercian section.
It's a great car and when the business is up and running i'll be back for another one for sure!!!
Thanks
JK

Hmm thats interesting I rang the guys at the dealership and they said it was sold when I rang about a month ago.
Anyway, I think you might need to "adjust" your pricing. With the Monaro's here with local support and warranty etc, the old holdens are looking less of a good deal especially when you can get a 2004 Monaro for £20K.
Someone will definately buy it at the right price.

At least the owners on here are talking some sense, a more ill-informed comment than Ringrams I've yet to read on this forum since it started.
For the record in late 2001 when I bought my GTS-R the list price for a GTS was £40,000 and the GTS-R £50,635 and surprise surprise BMW suddenly dropped the M5 price by £10,000 to £52,000. Might have had something to do with one of the motoring mags comments of "and when price is taken into the equation there is simply no contest"

Hi,
That's for the advise guys, well someone had a look at the car at the weekend, he's going to let me know by the end of play today if he's wants to buy.
We were talking about £15,000, if anyone else want to jump in at around that price then be my guest, it's has to be gone within the next two weeks really.
Thanks Again.

Thanks for the praise sjc.
For your info Ive been around commodores since 1979 when the VB came out. Im from NZ originally and Im just making a statement based partially on fact and partially on reality in the second hand car market.
HSV cars are nothing more than a holden with a few go fast goodies. You pay a lot for the name. Everyone knows you can pull more than a standard GTS from a Monaro with a good pcm tune and of course aftermarket brakes, shocks springs etc are all there to take performance up to and past the HSV's.
You will be aware of course that the VT has the old suspension without the updated links that came I believe in the VXII series cars, the newer ones handle much better etc. I agree Im not comparing like with like, however if you take an objective view Im sure you will see that what you paid for the car is not now what its worth. New they were around $80K NZ which is not £50K. More like £30K. But thats what you get for buying something rare etc in the UK.
PS: £15K sounds like a good deal now for the GTS.

And you can do the same with the HSV's so hardly a meaningful comparision?

As far as I'm aware the VT11 GTS-R's had the revised rear suspension.

In fact it over $90K AUS which while not £50K on exchange rate at the time, but there or there abouts with import duty taxes, testing for the U.K. market etc. In any case I only mentioned the U.K prices in reply to V8HSV's recollection of the new prices.

Yeah ok, you will also know the Oz/NZ GTS is not the same as the UK GTS, as the NZ one was the same as the GTS-R power output-wise. The UK GTS is fairly similar to the R8 Clubsport. I see the VT Clubsport is now around $40K NZ which is about £16K.
Anyway moot point seeing as my original comment that the pricing might need to be reviewed has been accepted by the owner who is now talking of offers in the region of £15K rather than the £22K its listed at.
Maybe one day at the Dyno we can compare power ratings and disucss the finer points of value for money

Ringram, think we will have to agree to disagree on most of this! Firstly, I don't have a problem with the price I paid, It was the car I wanted and it was available,I didn't want an M5,Maserati 3200,CLK55,XJR, EVO,996, (tried them all), value for money didn't enter the equation.
Secondly, quite what the price in Aus/NZ/Swaziland currency has to do with it I really don't have a clue. And lastly, it was hardly rocket science to suggest to the seller to drop the price to sell his car but you seem to feel this valifies your point, according to your post above. If he paid £21K ish recently then it's still roughly that now it's just that he's now desperate to sell so,(might take) £15/£16K ( although at the dealer as you say its's still £22K).I could advertise my car for a pound tomorrow and I'd sell it, doesn't in fact mean thats what it's worth. There was a very good post by UKHSV not long ago about values of the cars, with allowances made for the odd stupidly high/low priced ones.
Ringram, if you and I appear to have got off on the wrong foot,at the time I was agrieved in what appeared to be a non-owner talking the price down or criticising HSV's, if I got the wrong end of the stick I apologise, but as I say we may have to agree to disagree on some things.
If I had the money to buy any of them !!
It would have to have HSV badges !!.
So I would go for the Aussie imported R8 & GTS(UK GTS & GTS/R)
Still would want your car SJC over the newer models coming into the UK. Love your car mate !
Not a badge snob, just want Holden on mine thankyou.
Had to have my say didn't I.

Thanks very much Rob!! Personally I like them all wether it be Vauxhall/Holden/HSV bred Monaro cv8/VXR or GTS/GTS-R. I'm just glad people have had the balls to buy them as they have so much more character than the usual German /Jap stuff. As I have said many times, the closest to a big TVR there is.
