Hi Guys,

I've had a chat to Paul about this and he seems to thinks it's a good idea.

I'm considering putting something together to
help people find the part numbers of the more commonly required items and UK available alternatives. Items such as Oil Filters, Spark Plugs, Fuel Filters, Drive Belts, Wiper Blades, etc. I'm not about to replicate the GM parts database. If I can add a list of places to get the parts (I'm not suggesting advertising, just Names), it could be beneficial. I'm thinking of nothing more complicated than either a HTML table or a Database that will allow people to find the information they need quickly. I'm sure that you guys who've replaced parts previously have already established this information & contacts. Just wondering if it could be shared somehow. With more and more of us around there must be a wealth of knowledge just waiting to be tapped.

There's nothing worse than starting a job to find the part number, then scrambling to find a local stockist last minute on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon. The aim of the project will to allow people to get the info & order the part before they start the planned maintenance.

If anyone has information & wishes to contribute, can you e-mail me with what you've got.

An Example:

Description: Oil Filter
Fits Model(s): VN-VY V8
GM Part No: 92142006
Alt1 Part No: xxxxxx
Alt1 Manufacturer: Bosch
Alt2 Part No: yyyyyy
Alt3 Manufacturer: yyyyyy

TIA

A really nice Oz bloke (friend of raggyman) got a seat knob for me only to find out is was the wrong one, not his fault at all but it does underline the need for correct identification.

Pt No for the reclining seat knob (not the lumber one), and no I do not want a complete seat - official line.

Trim number is important sometimes too to get the right colour interior parts.
I will try and put up a list for air filters later when I have more time. Thats aftermarket air-filters. You should be able to get some of them over there may be not all the makes but most.

On the LS1 forum there is a sticky thread with usefull part numbers. Maybe this is the best way to organise the bits we know about?

Here is the link

I was going to post that but realised that if you are not a registered user on there, you can't view it. Easy to register though! Also I might get done for advertising!!!!

V8HSV's comments are exactly why I posted here. If you replace a part, make a note of the part coming off & the part going back on (if different). That way there shouldn't be any mistakes. If it's a commonly replaced part, others will benefit from your info.

Thanks Mark. Good to know you're there. Part of the aim of this was to be able to know which parts were available down your local Motorist Discount Centre and which aren't. Most places will look at you funny if you walk in & say "I want part X for a Monaro/HSV/Holden". But if you say I'd like part number GM-12345678 or it's equivalent they might be able to help.

Thanks island_boy_hsv. Fantastic Link.

Thanks motomk. Exactly what I'm looking for. Alternatives for the GM part that fit everyone's wallet.

Thanks again to all who replied. Keep the info coming.
