...has put a foot long key scratch down the side of my Monaro!!! Just above the rear wheel arch. If there's a word that tops "incandescent", then that describes how I'm feeling right now!!

Some people are only alive because it is illegal to kill them.

Honestly, what motivates people to commit such mindless acts of vandalism? Who can possibly benefit? (Other than the paintshop that will get the repair work, of course...)

Grrrrrrrrr!!

Outside the house, parked in the street, at night. Quiet residential side road in a pretty good part of town, too. Sigh. Straightforward case of jealousy from passing scum, I suppose, though I don't know why the moron chose my car, there are several nice motors up our street and they didn't get touched.

Ho hum. That's life I suppose.

Cheers for the replies, fellas.

I've calmed down now. In the end I guess it's just a car and this is just an inconvenience (and an expense); nobody got injured or anything. But the mindlessness and pointlessness of it does grate. As does the fact that the idiot that did it can never be brought to justice or made to pay for the damage.

A bit of hooning around today in the snow with the T/C off brought the smile back to my face

I have absolutely no idea how much these sorts of things cost to repair, though; nobody ever thought to key any of my other cars. This one's impulse blue and therefore metallic, the scratch is quite deep but I can't see any metal in it, hopefully it's just a paint and polish job. Guess I'll get a quote pretty soon anyhow.

I copped a dent in N/S rear panel just above the wheel arch. Size no bigger than 50pence piece. Got 2 estimates each around the £500 mark!! Bloody hell!! Door slammers!!

Supermarket car parks are my number 1 hate!! Door slammers and trolleys. I have no hesitation in double parking. Take me to court I say. The fine is going to be cheaper than the repair bill!

Sorry to hear. Samething happened on wife's X5 last year probably some enviromentalist (heavy on the mental) same place on car £1k worth of dammage. Just think of the hole in the ozone layer caused in repairing it.

:-( I got a dent in the bonnet the other day on the motorway, when the car in front ran over a wheel trim and it exploded in front of me. (the wheel trim, not the car !)
Almost had a disaster on monday when the Smart car I was overtaking had a blow out when I was alongside it.
That is the last car you want a blowout in, with such a short wheelbase. It swerved a couple of times, and just missed the back of the car, and then went head 1st into the armco. Very scary to see, certainly makes you think for a coule of miles

Sorry to hear of your recent horror.

I've also suffered 2 incidents of mindless vandalism.

On the Astra Coupe, somebody reversed right down the side of the car. I'm guessing it was a white van given the height of the white paint & black rubber marks along the car. No information left as to who did it. It flattened the entire rear wheel arch & most of panel. Luckily, the mirror bent and apart from a small amount of white paint it survived. Had the panel beaten back in to shape & resprayed. Paint was fairly difficult to match as it's the pearlessent Titan Gold variety. They blended into the front door & around the back. Also had the mouldings & badges replaced. All for £300.

My previous car also got hit in the same year. Some to$$er knifed both front tyres, keyed the off side front panel and wrote his initials in my bonet. Never did cach the b4st4rd. Body repair was around £250. Tyres were £200 for the pair.

Tip: Don't go through the insurance companies if you can help it. I went down to some local body repair shops and had them look at it. They came out with some stupid figures (like those posted here). Showed them the cash & they gave more reasonable prices. I think it's about £60 per panel to paint & laquer. Cost increases if you want body panel reshaping & any mouldings/badges as well.

Hope it helps.

I have a small dent just above the door handle on the drivers side (supermarket car park again) hard to spot but i know it's there.

Has anyone tried Dentmaster or Chips Away as they are supposed to do a decent job for a fraction of the price.

I was going to try my local guy to remove the dent.

Anyone got any experience of these companies.

Also might be a suggestion for others

G'Day - I am a proud new Monaro owner - what a machine! With ref to Chips Away I used them to fix some quite severe damage to split front valance )plastic bits) and nasty crease on front wing on my wifes now ex MGTF and it was really good - it past a professional vehicle inspection when I sold it! Only cost me £90 cash MG wanted £500!

I let chips away repair & spray a bumper on my old Impreza and pull out some door dents, cost just over £100 the lot and I was one happy customer.
