VXR8 auto to manual conversion

Surely it'd be easier just to either have the box repaired or upgraded ( or torque convertor or whatever the hell slips in them lol )
Autoboxes are full of wet plate clutch packs - to make changes smoother they essentially slip the apply of the next clutch - for a performance application you tend to make the engagement faster with less slip. But you can make it too harsh and fast which can damage the hard parts inside (sprags etc)
Also the box requests the engine to reduce torque during the change which protects the internals, people map out(remove) that torque management, which is usually a dollop of ignition retard - but the danger is burning up the plates if you are not getting the pressures and timing right.
The 6L80e in the vxr8 is known as a clutch to clutch box, which makes mapping more tricky because it can end up in two gears at once if you get it wrong.
The 6L90e used in the cadilac cts and pressumably the later LSA based vxr8's is a stronger box, although slightly longer.

I heard that people were fitting 4L80E gearboxes when they were chucking big power at their auto VXR8s. Or there's a few places over here that sell heavily upgraded 6L80Es (for example www.transmissioncenter.net advertise a 1200hp upgrade).

I used those guys for the level 4 parts inside my 700r4 about 10 years ago. Web site still as jumbled as it was back then!RPM Transmissions seems to be one of the most popular places in the US for this sort of thing
Obviously a manual swap is doable, but far easier if you can get all the parts from a donor vehicle.
Right from pedal, hydraulics, clutch, flywheel, trans, mounts, propshaft etc etc etc
Trying to piece together the parts from multiple sources would be a nightmare and probably very expensive.
