HSV Gen-F2 Maloo number plate recess
Discussion
Hi,
I'm quite excited as I have ordered a Maloo from Vauxhall. Unfortunately delivery date is likely to be a fair way off. I decided on the Jungle green and already before production has started am using the name Kermit. I chose manual as I wanted it to feel different than my auto car and I think it will be easier to keep the revs up with the manual box. I know that the auto would have paddles but I've never really got along with them and find they result in me driving lazily. Anyway I'm sure I'll be very pleased when Kermit arrives.
I was thinking about number plates, I've seen one or two with Uk full size single line plates stuck onto the front bumper and over the recess on the tailgate. Neither of these looked very neat as the front plate was bowed and at the rear you could see a gap into the recess at the bottom of the plate.
I am going to put a 6 digit personal number on and one of those digits is the number 1, so my plate can be set out legally to UK standard rather than import sized letters and be considerably shorter at a minimum of 363mm.
I naively thought it would be easy to lookup Australian plate sizes but find they are different depending on state. I think that the standard longest length for Australian plates is 372mm, so I could have some made this length for a good fit. I think the maximum height in Australia is 155mm. So I was thinking standard 111mm for the front and perhaps deeper for the back at say around 140mm or even 155mm.
So after all this drivel, I guess what I'm really asking is if anyone can confirm that the front and rear recesses on a 2016 Maloo will accommodate a 372mm wide plate. Also any input on height of the recess on the back and what they think will look best would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Liz

Ok this is on a Gen-F not an F2 but I would say the back would definitely be the same on an F2. The front shouldn't be too far different either to be honest.
Front is about 395mm wide back 390mm wide. 385mm wide would fit fine both ends.
Actual number plates on car are stock ones from Victoria. 375mm wide and 130mm high.

I hope you ordered the LSA version. I suspect this is what you did as it looks like this is the only "off the shelf" version they offer.
Mine is just stuck on with doublesided sticky and overlaps.
I can get an exact measurement if you want?
If you just ordered I guess you wont be seeing it before October/November. Plenty of time to research and purchase your first mods.

Whatever happens, DON'T let the selling dealer screw the plates to it before you pick it up.
The number of VXR8s with holes in their front bumpers, where the monkeys screwed straight through, without regard for what they were doing, is unbelievable!
Congratulations on your choice of vehicle though.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for all your replies, very helpful.
I've been in touch with Lakin Plates in Australia who make mounts in any size which fit the factory mounting points on the tailgate and for the front too. They have been very helpful with sizes/options and I'm just looking into suitable sized number plates as mine will be a personal number and so the plate can be a bit shorter. I think this will be a neat approach.
Dougie,
Would love come to Luton and have a look, I think you should have my contact details, so just let me know when as I come almost anytime.
Thanks

Take a photo of any car with a camera and plastics will look different to Metal.
Yes there is a slight difference but its not as bad as it looks in the photo.
Also these parts are at different angles to each other and with this colour that makes it even weirder.

My hard lid is a completely different finish (as well as colour), like orange peel. Obviously not painted at the same time or place as the rest of it. As I said, rubbish finish for 54K and frankly I'm surprised, VZ's back were pretty good paint jobs.
