Petrol cap problems

Today as i was filling up my VXR8 i took out the petrol cap as normal, filled up, but could get the cap to lock, kept turning and just wouldn't keep shut, just had to close the filler lid over it and walk away, any ideas what i could do to fix the problem

I think it's a common fault on these, I know it is on the Monaro.

I've had this in my ro a couple of times. Seems to have fixed itself which I don't understand but I'm not complaining

ive had this, simply use super glue to make the internal parts of the cap fixed as one, it will close fine just without the ratchet sound.

Mines been glued for a couple of years now.

I find with my r8 if i dont push the cap too hard, just put it place and then turn gently it works perfectly every time. Otherwise sometimes if i apply a bit of pressure... it doesnt always lock.
