My VXR8 was at the mappers last week and apparently the new LS7 clutch is slipping and there are noises from the gearbox.
It is getting stripped out tomorrow, so I was just wanting advice.
The engine is normally aspirated and produced 604 BHP on the dyno, with 578 ft lbs of torque. My current gearbox must be the T5656 as the car is a 2007 6 litre.

My question is, is it possible to get the T5656 strengthened to take the torque and power, or would it be more economical to go for a T56 Magnum, or similar.
If this is the case, can anyone who has or knows someone with one for sale, please let me know.
If the new LS7 clutch is ruined, would I be better fitting an LS9 clutch?
Any help, or even constructive abuse would be most welcome

Thanks.

Can't comment on your issues, but if you are looking for a reconditioned box (T6060) & clutch then get in touch as I may have just what you need...

Can't comment about your actual issue, but,LS9 clutch is twin plate setup, it feels better than stock.
No issues with 548rwhp. Expensive but imo worth it. Also I'm told it won't suffer from fluid contamination as stock and ls7 can. Only done a few k miles though, don't know about reliability other than what can be read elsewhere.

Curious you are saying "apparently" it is slipping ? It should be fairly obvious if it is or isnt. Or is the tuner saying this only happened on the dyno ?

Sometimes dyno can be a lot harsher than you'd ever see on the road.

Most boxes can be strengthened to some degree, but even 600hp should not trouble a T56 at all. So you really need to find out what the problem is first, before any upgrade options are explored. Most upgrades for older boxes revolve around a new stronger mainshaft..but retaining the same gears so unless gears are failing the upgrade doesnt really fix anything.
I've pushed over 1k with mine at times and yet to damage a gear....although I do expect it to fail at some point when at that level.

How many miles are on your clutch ? IMO unless you really need a twin plate, I see little reason to move to one, especially if you are using an older T56 as the syhcnros arent as capable as the TR6060's
So again find out which box you have before exploring that option. The lighter single disc will always shift better than two discs and unless there is boost in your future, plenty of single disc options that will easily handle the power, and then some.

As Stevie said, that sort of power should be no issue to your gearbox. An LS7 shouldn't be slipping at that power level. I suspect something else is going on here. especially as its naturally aspirated, i would expect the clutch to cope with a minimum of 650, maybe closer to 700 depending on the torque curve.

All I can say is that I got an email from Tim Adams Racing, who built the LS3 for me, and it said that the car was still at the mappers and they said " The bad news is that the clutch is now slipping, and the mapper thinks that the clutch and gearbox are seriously struggling." The clutch is brand new.
The dropping of the box has been put back till Monday,so I should know by Monday or Tuesday exactly what the damage is. I am hoping that it is just a leaking seal somewhere, and that there is oil on the clutch plate.
I will keep you all informed.
Thanks again for all your comments.
