I am after a set of wheels and have been offered from a wheel supplier a set of 8.5x19" but with 35mm off set and was wondering how much negative off set I can get away with. Vy SS ute .

It's not just the offset, it's the wheel width too.

Our VE is running 8.5j rims with a 31mm offset, and no interference - but I know the VEs have more room than the older platform.

Sorry to pass you on again, but IIRC DrewSS had aftermarket wheels on his old Ute, so may be able to help - Or GSD2000, as he's played with a lot on his Monaro in the past, and I'm sure the pickups have more room than the saloons or coupes.

Thanks guys, I'll send them an email to see what they say.
I've been nearly a week trying to find out about a set of rims from Wheelbase, I keep asking for the same guy that keeps telling me I'll be in touch before the end of the day, I need to contact Germany to see if they will fit. The manufactures must be in Germany or is it outer Mongolia and he must be using a pigeon to contact each them. How the hell can these businesses stay in business if they don't want my money, it's dead simple I buy some wheels and you can have money. Clowns won't be selling 6 rims to me now as I can't be assed with them now.
I feel a bit better now.

I wouldn't consider anything less than 40mm, even on a ute. Rubbage on full bump will occur.

On my Monaro I'm running 19 x 8.5/9.5 et 35 with ease. Slight touch on the rear, I am running low on coilovers too.
Slight pull on the rear arch or a little camber will sort it out fine.

What size wheel and tyre are you running? I assume from what people are saying the ute has more clearance?
If your near come and bolt my wheels on yours to see

Phillphill, I'd love to pop in and try your rims but I'm a boat trip away at least. The ute has VXR Monaro 19s at the moment. What size tyres are you running?
Emailed DrewSS and he has also given me a bit of food for thought.
The willtheyfit web page is an interesting thing, thanks for the link Granby.
