Hi. I'm thinking about buying a Monaro but am concerned about the amount of space for my young children in the back. I've never seen one before so was wondering if there is anybody local to me who owns one. I'm from St Neots. Thanks, Aaron

We're visiting Duxford on 20th next month to have a look around the museum, if you want to pop by with the kids and measure up.

There's no room in the back of our Ute, but I'm sure the Monaro owners would be more than happy to show you around. smile

We'll be there from about midday.

im no where near you but a monaro is huge in the back.
I regularly carry 4 adults in mine..getting in and out is a little restrictive
the seats don't go that far forward ..but once your in its massive

I've got two car seats in mine for a soon to be 3 year old and a six year old. As stated its very roomy in the back its just a pain waiting for the seats to go forward to get them in smile

Monaro VXR here, although I'm over by Northampton so not much use, plus I've changed the front seats too hehe

Either way, as stated the rear is absolutely huge. The car will very comfortably carry 4 6fters with no bumped knees. Getting the great oafs in the back is the only faff, the electric seats do take a while to slide forwards and as they're quite thick, the gap you have to thread yourself through is the limiting factor far more than space once inside.

Plenty of owners have managed it though. If you want a lot of boot space then you'll need to look at either non-VXR models, or the earlier 5.7 VXR of which there aren't many (look for VXR bodykit without nostrils, exhaust on one side only and fuel cap being low on the side instead of on top)

I've never found boot space an issue in the VXR, including trips to Le Mans etc. but we're only 2 people at the moment so have the huge back seat space too to use...

Thank you for your responses and I am pleased to hear there's plenty of room in the back. I'm still unsure about how tricky it's going to be bending down getting into the back with a baby in arms, then spending a long time bending down while clipping the belts together. I suppose you have to press and hold the button to move the seat forward too; you can't release it. My fear arises from doing this with my old Supra, but I do realise this car had a smaller back seating area. I also realise a VXR8 4 door would be the car of choice for me but these are pricey.

If you were very good at welding, I know where there's a HSV GTS VT2 going cheap. Looks like a 4-door Monaro...

I have an 06 CV8 in Cambourne, which is quite close to you. PM me if you want to swing by. Going to Duxford next month might be better for you though, you'll be able to look at the boot space differences (mine is the less practical version).

FWIW I have 5 and 3 year old, they get themselves into their (booster style) seats, but the 5 year old has to do the belt for the 3 year old. The hard part was getting the seats into the car in the first place (the isofix points are tough to get to). I wouldn't want to have to duck into the back to sort out smaller children on a regular basis.

I've updated my prefs to allow messages, but given the forum doesn't seem to be able to send me emails it might not actually work.

and I'm not about to post my address on a public forum.....

so feel free to email this temporary address directly:
pistonheadtemp <at> forward.cat

which should reach me today at least. FWIW I am around at lunchtime today

IIRC PM's won't work until you have a PH account for a week or so and 20 odd post under your belt... wink

Unless it's recently changed, Ph e-mails are down, and will remain like that until there is a serious re-write of parts of the forum.

Thanks for the PM/e-mail advice. I normally assume it's my lack of IT skills that's causing the problem!

I've sent a message to your temp address but am not sure about the ".cat" bit at the end. Is this code for something or is that what I actually type? (I understand the "<at>" part at least!

Oddly I did actually get the PM emails, but the timing was all wrong. Hopefully OP and I can either find another time or he can take a look at some examples at Duxford next month.

https://forward.cat/ is a service that provides temporary email forwarding. Mostly useful when registering for websites that you don't want to keep communicating with long-term etc.

.cat is just an uncommon top-level-domain, supposedly for the catalan speaking world, but I would guess that most of the registrations are feline themed.
