So I've just been given a pretty good quote on a finance deal for a 63-plate Gen-F LSA with 16K on the clock. I was all up for it until I looked at the price (bit backward, I know). £39,000 is about as cheap as it goes from a VX dealer and I'm sure there's a discount can be had. Trouble is that for less money you can buy some very tasty bits of more mainstream kit of the same age/mileage.

Thinking C63, E63, M3, M5 (turbo version), A8 4.0 TFSi, XFR, etc

So I stopped myself. The head won over the heart. I just can't hand over such a wedge of cash, as I feel like I'll end up doing them a favour at that price (anyone remember when VX heavily discounted the VXR8).

I'm thinking it must be time to change my name to Arniesilvertenapennycar or maybe Arniesensible.

Anyone have inspiring 2p worth of thoughts?

I also called them about the car, not that I was buying but I wanted a standard VXR8 so went on their "list".
It is cheap compared to their other one at almost 50k

Part of my interest in the Gen-F is the manual box. The M3 is the only other one that offers this, and the current one (F10?) looks great to me, goes like stink, but apparently sounds pretty dysmal.

Gen-F still mightily attractive, but yes - when you can get a similar age/mileage M5 for £3-4k less.... they certainly aren't the bargain early cars were.

VX are only brining ing them in "to order" now though - so there is no indication residuals won't remain strong. E3's still go for serious money compared to E1's after all.

The trouble is, all the other makes will depreciate far far more than the Gen F ever would, your paying for a car that is very individual here in the UK and easily tuned for mega BHP easily.

How bad was the Gen F in the end, what CAT did it get registered to, if any?

At the risk of flaming, buy the Gen F if as Roger says "you really want 1" as its a car brought for the ownership experience and to be different. The only fly in the ointment which stopped me was that for close to the same money you can get other makes which are dynamically and spec wise far superior. The newer HSVs just are not good enough though in my view to justify the massive cost compared to a well sorted VXR8, my old one being a prime example as it was miles faster and better handling than the close to 60k car I drove at Bellingers.

I'm exactly where you are. I'm looking at an Audi A8 4.0TFSI which is a similar age and has fewer miles. It chips to 550hp and will happily mod to 650hp. I've also picked up the details of a new shape M5 for similar money.

Mind you, Picadors have come down a fair bit on the price and offered a cracking finance deal...

I think the Gen F will hold its value more due to the rarity value so if you can get a good deal and want 1 I'd go that route. I was looking new and apart from VX being complete cocks the price was the price and just not worth it for what I wanted.

My red vxr8 had full pedders with tvs2300 with 500 at the rears, was a great car without a doubt, but the Gen f is a totally different kettle of fish in every way, the driving experience inside the car with all the added features which are to many to list, I know mine has had few things done to the engine but the complete package makes it a very different car to the vxr8 and all for the better.

So what kinda finance deals are available for a brand new Gen F/Ute?

I've never brought a brand new car, never done fianance so wouldn't have a clue and I've not got the balls to go into Picadors to ask?

A brand new ute would be nice but I've always wrote the idea off as being stupid as I could never afford it..... Or could I?

Anybody got any figures, or rough ideas?

I found my modded vxr8 better in every way apart from a more modern dash look. 😳

VX finance rates are pretty good. I put down 20k and paying 600/month for 5 years. Interest rate is lower than our mortgage, so would not have been wise to put any more towards the car. I just picked the deposit that gave me the monthlies I wanted.

If you can put the Ute against a company, you also save VAT as it is a commercial vehicle and has lower road tax to boot.

1.99% is the answer.

Can you run a ute as a company car? If so you get the VAT back.
