Said to replace the much loved Mpss. Or at least be developed from it. So should be better.
Any experience of these Mps4 tyres on here...? Quite new so possibly not yet.
They are a replacement for the Michelin Pilot Sport 3 not the Super Sports.Any experience of these Mps4 tyres on here...? Quite new so possibly not yet.
Below is quoted from an email conversation between myself and Jamie McWhir.... See below.
The Pilot Sport 4 is based upon a recent tyre, the Pilot Super Sport, which was built to cope with supercars as well as quick smaller cars, like M135i and small AMG's
So unlike the Pilot Sport 3 which was more of a hot hatchback tyre, I wouldn't worry about the capabilities of the Pilot Sport 4 on a quicker, heavier rear wheel drive car
I've driven them during testing, and they are a significant step over the tyre they replace.
If you've any further questions don't hesitate to give me a reply.

Jamie

The PS3 superseded the PS2. The PS2 was a good tyre in terms of grip. The PS3 was harder compound and not designed to be a performance tyre (some argued that because of this is wasn't really a replacement for the PS2). The PS4 has redressed this by being more performance orientated. The MPSS is still more of a performance tyre than PS4.
MPC2 > MPSS > PS4 > PS2 > PS3 purely looking at dry grip performance.

Any experience?
...at all...? Lol
Chris, I'm with you. Apparently (and this is also only from Jamie) the PS4 will entirely replace the MPSS and also the PS3. The MPSS was based on Le Mans technology, whereas the MP4 also takes cues from other disciplines whilst still taking advantage of the MPSS performance....at all...? Lol
I've been speaking with technical departments of tyre manufacturers for a lot longer than the internet has been around, and have never been fed bullshyte by them. Reviews in magazines can be a different matter.
Pilot sport cup II on mine now. Surprisingly good in all weathers, but probably care needed in heavy rain. Really good hot grip, and not dangerous when cold. Shallower tread, but broad blocks so may wear ok despite the much lower treadwear rating over mpss.
Some mounting issues. They are very tight and don't seat properly. Really need mounting, driving a few miles and then balancing.
Look great with the velvet-like sidewall decals.
