LSA into VXR8 Accessory Drive questions
Discussion
Hi all,
Does anyone have any ideas what is required to turn a crate LSA into a fully fledged replacement for a VXR8 LS2 / LS3? I'm speaking specifically about accessory drives (brackets, pulleys, etc), pumps, alternator, starter motor etc..
Hoping some kind soul on here has gone through this before and knows exactly what needs to be bought
Kind regards

Araf you are correct, the one from PWP wont fit in your VXR8 due to it been for a Caddy, you need a GTS LSA
there is the odd bracket you need and definitely a stater motor
If you speak to Mr Fish he has a list of bits and prices you need to convert to either a standard LSA or a mental LSA

I understand an LSA into a VXR8 isn't that easy, so wouldn't try. I think Roger has already looked into this, so would be worth giving him a call. If you go down that road a new accessory drive kit (minus aircon) is around £600+delivery+duties from Jegs. Don't forget that you'll need the intercooler pump, pipes, wiring and radiator.
Most guys in the US simply fit the LSA charger onto their LS2/3. There's plenty of threads on the subject on US forums. There's also a company dedicated to selling parts for this conversion. The charger fits with minor mods to the firewall area (same would be true of an LSA). The Gen-f has a taller bonnet and lower engine mounts, so needs no mods.
Bear in mind that while technically superior in a number of ways (slightly stronger heads, oil squirters cooling the pistons, forged crank and rods), the pistons still aren't forged. A better design maybe, but not forged.
If you go down this road, you'll be pioneering the conversion in the UK. I don't reckon it'll end up much cheaper than just slapping a TVS Heartbeat onto your motor.
That said, it would be fun...

When I bought an LSA charger for an LS1, Roger told me he'd looked at fitting LSAs to VXR8s and found that there were a number of technical issues. Be interesting to see how they were overcome.
Update: My LS1/LSA build is delayed due to never ending work commitments, so the charger is still on the shelf. I'm currently snowed-in in New York, which is fun (not).

I think that was from when he was doing PhilW's car - which had a CTS LSA engine. After the GenFs arrived, and Roger had a nose around the engine bay, he realised there were differences in the Aussie engines. When I bought an LSA charger for an LS1, Roger told me he'd looked at fitting LSAs to VXR8s and found that there were a number of technical issues. As for nothing written here, there have been a few mentions, but no detailed write-up. Unfortunately there are so many knockers that I don't think some can be bothered with sharing their knowledge for it just to be rubbished.

I think Monkfish have done a two or three now, and Raving also sourced some engines from Oz, so may have helped with installations?
A Vf is a Ve with different front & Rear ends , for all the charge cooler mounts etc you could use Hsv Vf as the frame is nearly exactly the same & it bolts to the front of it & use most of vf hoses to do a proper factory looking job You could put the whole vf front cradle under with all the ally bits etc also with small amount of work , none of it is hard its just knowing what fits what & I ve had a vf down to a bone

Ah I see, makes sense then. We need to get Roger on here to go over what's needed...As for nothing written here, there have been a few mentions, but no detailed write-up. As for knockers (avoiding the obvious Carry-On film joker opportunity), that's a shame.

I've been working in the US for several weeks now. I'll be back mid-February. I want to swap out a few parts on that stroker engine before figuring out what to do with it. Tempted to sell my projects and just buy Gen-F...don't have time with the new job.ArnieVXR said:

That looks fantastic, as if it's an OEM fit. What level of boost are you running and how does it drive? It drives fantastic, the torque is immense and so smooth
