Monaro VXR LS2 60L
So I drove the daughter to school, started great. On the return journey when I started the engine I had a Check Alternator warning.
The battery gauge was a 14 V so seemed fine.
Did not happen when I got home and restarted the engine.

Happened to anyone before?
Intermittent problem?

I would check battery voltage with engine off and with engine on with a proper voltage tester and see what it says , are battery connections and earth connections ok ?

You need between 12.40 volts to 12.70 volts on a standing battery any less and it needs charging or replacing.

Alternator charge needs to be above 12.70 volts running between 13.50 volts to 14.50 volts.
