Sticky gauge..
Discussion
or at least I assume it is.
Didn't go out in the 'R8 yesterday but driving it today I noticed the oil pressure gauge was sat passed the 5. I assumed it had stuck there from the frost overnight from Tuesday but when I stopped & turned off it went back to zero. The next start it went straight passed the 5 again. Oil temperature was coming up as usual & voltmeter was working fine too. I'm out all day tomorrow but taking SWMBO Corsa so won't drive it again until Saturday. Anything to worry about or as I suspect the gauge being stuck?

Mine failed high like that and sat like it quite happily for 3 or 4 months. Then one day, the ECU noticed and threw a complete hissy fit about lack of oil pressure.
Apparently they are quite easy to replace if you dont have an s/c stuck on top of it. Its located right at the top at the back of the block

Yes, MF did mine because its a right PITA with the s/c in place - you cant even see it at that point, let alone think about changing it. Although apparently it can be done if you have fabricated your own tools to do it :-)
Without the s/c it "should" be quite easy. MF flog the bit - it was around £50 iirc. You can probably get a price off their website.
I have the Haynes with the steps in it if you want.

The replacement unit arrived from MF on Tuesday & I'll be changing it at the weekend (I got myself a Haynes book thanks Phil) but the reading on the gauge has started to come down. When cruising its at 3.5 bar but under acceleration it goes off the scale again. What is a 'normal' reading?
