Hi guys.

What oil are you running in your cars, my service now due.

Local garage would use Shell Helix 5W30, would this be ok. I know some use Mobile 1 5W30.

Also, Air Con belt has come off, just picked up on MOT, garage phoned picadors & were told there is a bracket mod needed when replacing belt, is this correct.

Or can it be just a case of replacing belt, job done.

Walkinshaw just quoted me £280 to sort belt out, including de gassing air con & re gassing, ive no problem with Walkys, but, £280eek

Thanks for any help chaps.

Dave

Dave

you should have got some off me at the meet in December. Keep the GM Dex2 FS 5W/30 in stock

you can do belt mod or just replace with new 4PK1100. sometimes old belt stretches and new one cures it.

Why re-gas? That's like changing your oil, because you've bought a new dip stick!!

No idea mate, will probably try a new belt first, then, if no joy, get the mod done.

The bracket can be changed without having to break into the aircon system, there is usually only a problem with aircon belt throwing off if you have a SC fitted ? if you dont then just fit a new belt and keep and eye on it.

Probably the way to go Mick, don't really want to spend £100 plus on the mod plus cost of getting to Monkfish on top. But if i have to then so be it.

Could i see it from the engine bay, or do i need to get underneath, say on ramps.

Castrol EDGE 5/30 for me. I usually have very little loyalty to brands, but have trusted Castrol for years....

Buy the pulley mod from monkfish takes about an hour to fit, trolley jack is good enough no need to get under the car just drivers wheel off and inner plastic to gain access to bolts. Also check your front crank pulley if play when running this might pay to be changed to.

Thanks Rob for that, getting it serviced soon, will get them to check tensioner etc, take it from there.

Are there holes there already to fit new pulley assembly. Or is it a case of old pulley of, new fits straight back in where old one was.

The mod bracket with two pulleys instead of the one pulley slides in the same place as old bracket once you undo the air con pump remove old part slide new in and bolt it all back together easy as.

Thanks Mick.

Hope your well fella.

Will see what they say when serviced, with regards to the tensioner.

Even with my limited knowledge, im sure i would be able to change it myself if its that straight forward.

Is the tensioner easy to move to be able to get the new longer belt on if needs be.

Regards.

Dave.

Don't even try to fit it yourself, it's a pita of a job, needs to be done from under the car and need the proper tools, think it needs a bigger belt but MF supply the new belt with the new tensioner

Dose your crank pulley wobble when tick over while engine running? Like a lot ? Is normally a tad even if it's new tbh I've brought new and still a little wobble, need the bracket fitted due to a risk of coming off again and might even take the aux belt off at same time (maybe)

Air con pump just pulls over enough to do the work needed once bolts out.
