After having 3 near misses in the last year as a result of some numpty texting while going round a sharp bend in the narrow Surrey country lanes near my house. 2 resulted in me having to go up a kerb, all resulted in emergency breaking and ABS actioning and on each occasions I was going slowly which was lucky (20mph in a 40mph zone). I have decided to get an accident camera to at least get some evidence assuming I am alive after having a no fault head on.

Bought a top of the range Road Hawk HD with track day pack. Is forward facing, full GPS, sound along with a remote microphone and a track mode that allows continuous recording as well as a road based system that records everything and over rights a long with putting event files into a no deletable log file. Also had full giroscope data that can be used both in accidents and for developing ones driving on track days. It is full HD and can record up 60 frames per second. I have a second camera with a remote control that I can attach to the car to get second camera views.

So for my next track day I hope to have 3 camera views which should make for a good track day video after editing.

So far I have been fiddling with the settings which has to be done from the computer and loaded onto the card as there are no buttons on the device. Lens is very clear and very wide view showing the full bonnet and dash along with a good view of the outside world. Seeing that it is mounted behind the mirror that is certainly impressive. Sound recording of my voice is very clear and the V8 sounds epic, although at full throttle there is a vibration being amplified which I think is the power lead rattling. I will investigate and add a bit of dynomat. Picture wise deteriorates at low light and I have yet to see what it like when it's dark. However I am pleased thus far.

I used to have the older version Roadhawk forward rear facing dash cam, was very good but there have been a lot of progress in last few years, I wanted to change for a better camera and done a lot of research and the one that came out tops and is Halfords own brand "Nextbase cameras" I purchased the Nextbase 512G I am really impressed with the results and can't fault it, liked it so much I purchased the 202 model to point out the rear window, very impressed with both, ultra sharp HD video and the photo's you can pick out of the video is super clear

If people are texting whilst driving and causing road safety issues....why not save buying a camera and just use a baseball bat?

When it comes to an insurance claim a baseball bat is not eveidence, I was driving behind a woman who decided to stop then reverse back into a parking spot, she did not noticing a big Toyoto landcruiser had stopped behind her, the collision was here fault and admitted all liability at the time, but then told her insurance company I drove into the back of her, the bh didnt get away with it, had a camera ever since.

I've got a video of a terminally-stupid woman rear-ending my wife on the motorway...not that that particular claim was in doubt, but I have cameras on my cars (a blackvue and an eprance 0803).

I have the Eprance mini 0801: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUUTXv5ivHk (Warning NSFW language!)

The 0805/0806 is apparently a lot better at night though.

I've got a Nextbase 512g fitted in my Monaro. I'm very happy with it. Picture quality, sound, anti glare, GPS etc. Seems ok and a little bit of peace of mind considering the amount of nesbits on the roads.
