Gearknob rattle
Discussion
Yes, you'll need to remove the centre console (one retaining screw in the cubbyhole hole under the ashtray, the other screw is in the armrest storage. Then you need to gently prise it up, not forgetting to unclip the connectors for the window switches etc. This then gives you access to the shifter assembly.

Right, this is what I've got....
Does this look anything like a ripshifter?
Can the white rubber sleeve be removed from inside the cabin?
As mentioned previously the knob pulled off (ahem) with a bit of persuasion as it appeared to have been siliconed previously.
I've removed the old silicon and reapplied a more generous amount. Took it out for a drive round the block a couple of hours later and it was still rattling. This may just be because the silicon apparently takes 24 hrs to set.
I am slightly concerned that there is some play in the stick itself lower downwhich might be causing the rattle but I won't know till tomorrow.

I would be looking under the white boot and making sure all the bolts under there are tightened up probably, have some thread-lock handy. 2 ring spanners joined together is how somebody showed me to undo the bolts on the white boot under the car.
Once that is removed there are 4 bolts at the back as opposed to the rip-shifter which has 4 bolts on each corner.
