Your HSV/VXR plans for 2016
Discussion
I'd like to create a 427-454ci cable throttle ITB or 102mm TB 04 cv8/vxr, with a view to using the 04 HRT 427 (C5R) tune as a baseline, tuning from there and then taking on the class D record at thunder road. Most likely a pipe dream considering the amount of work I have at present/timeframe.
Perhaps Ringram will break his crusty, decrepit Clubsport and make it easy, bar the 58x reluctor.
Merry Christmas everyone, I hope 2016 brings you safe motoring, with a V8 soundtrack. My plan.....to sell my VXR I'm afraid. I won't bore you with reasons but if anyone fancies a pristine 2005 VXR (and I do mean pristine, it is virtually perfect with 36k miles and in near standard trim) then watch out for an advert in the New Year. Meantime, more wine and food..........Happy New Year!

Do tell mr Fart!
I might be looking to scratch the vxr8 itch but can't stretch to that price so a Monaco is a great alternative

Definitely one of the best mods. Variable ratio racks should only be fitted to shopping cars.
Is the OE rack really variable? I thought it was just geared for a 7.5 ton lorry!M11 MFP said:

I've got a 102mm cable throttle on a 5.7. I made this plot to see how far I have to push the throttle to get ambient pressure in the intake (as a function of engine RPM), and as you can see it tips in rather quickly. The data could be better, but you get the picture...Perhaps Ringram will break his crusty, decrepit Clubsport and make it easy, bar the 58x reluctor.
Mines in at dub customs at the moment having a bunch of stuff done, window tints, lowering springs, roof wrap, new wheels inc paint, tyres, discs, pads, callipers painted, bonnet vents, hid kit, e3 boot trim, Plus waiting for paddles to arrive from aus for gearbox. Then in the new year I need to get a new torque converter as mines making noises again, plus I want to get headers n cats, an otr intake and maybe a cam

this plot ...
Extrapolating from that a 346 with cam and heads barely requires more than 70% throttle opening at 6500rpm with the 102mm. The chart would be quite different with 427 or 454 and a good camshaft. Quite variable at light throttle openings. A factor in low speed driveability with the 102 on a smaller engine?
Anti-lock Braking 4-channel
System (ABS)
Traction Control (TC) When sensors detect imminent rear wheel spin, engine torque is reduced. If one wheel
is about to spin, braking is applied to transfer torque to wheel with better traction
Suspension Front: MacPherson strut. Direct acting stabiliser bar. Progressive rate coil springs
Rear: Control-Link Independent Rear Suspension (IRS). Semi-trailing arm. Progressive rate
miniblock coil springs. Stabiliser bar
Monaro FE2 sports Front: Sports springs. Stabiliser bar
suspension Rear: Sports springs. Gas pressure dampers. Stabiliser bar
Steering Variable ratio rack and pinion
Track (mm) Front: 1559 Rear: 1577
Turn circle 11.0
(kerb to kerb, m)
Wheelbase (mm) 2788
Exterior dimensions (mm) Length Width Height

The data is slightly dicky because it shows the maximum value, the value as captured is instantaneous, and some cells are obviously easier than others...but yes, there looks to be a fair bit of headroom on even a well-breathing 346, so the usual advice of get a 92mm TB (on a standard size engine) may be ok! More worrying is if you make this plot with the 78mm TB. I'd say a bigger engine easily justifies the 102mm TB. Quite variable at light throttle openings. A factor in low speed driveability with the 102 on a smaller engine?
I'm finding driveability fine, you just use the throttle with authority!
Good info on the rack, I knew it isn't the best, but obviously I'm not good enough to detect a variable rack
