I've had my Monaro off the road for a couple of weeks now and I popped into my workshop at the weekend to check her over and give her a start. The battery is maintained by a conditioner and yet when I went to start the car I got a click but that was all.

The voltage gauge read 12v. Confused I tried again, click but no start. I tried again and again. I then swapped the battery out just to check there wasn't anything funny going on. The same thing happened.

I assumed at this point the starter motor was perhaps stuck or sticking. So I just kept flicking the key over and over and then all of a sudden she burst into life as whatever was sticking the starter motor let go. The car ran fine no problems to speak of. Took her for a run, stopped, tried to start again and the same thing happened, I had to flick the key a couple of times (not as many) till the starter unstuck itself.

Is this a common problem? Is there anyway I can help prevent this issue whilst shes in storage over winter?

Maybe worth checking the wiring after your header installation maybe something loose or worst case melted.

Try this to see if starter is problem, put it in first gear, turn ignition off, release handbrake and rock the car forwards and backwards a couple of times, try to get it to actually turn the engine over as then it will help, I know it will be hard to do, then put it in neutral, handbrake on and then turn key if it then starts it will more likely be the starter solenoid.
